Hello,

I just have started a project, which have to be done to finish my education as IT specialist in Germany.

Topic of this project is the IEEE 802.1X for wired devices in a network. The aim of this project is to test this functionality and to evaluate this method.
So within this project I have to set up a small test environment that consists of 1 debian server (freeradius), 2 switchs (Cisco & Hp) and 2 devices (workstation & notebook).

In order to stay in the given time (35 hours) I would like to ask you how to do a minimal set up for the radius server that will work in the test environment.
Do I have to change things in the configuration files? As far as I read, I have to do these steps:
1. Change the IP in the listen block of the radiusd.conf to the local adress I want to use, for example: 10.10.10.1
2. I have to create a local static user in the user.conf, which is supposed to be granted access to the network.

Anything else?

Either the switchs and the devices are set up for IEEE 802.1X.

I'm glad about any feedback you can give me.

Kind regards,
Daniel Schmalen
