I use wpa_supplicant for wireless on Linux. nice easy config.  however, I believe that on the newer NM applet
you DO NOT specify the User certificate ie just do

Wireless Security: WPA/WPA2-Enterprise
Authentication: TLS
Identity: anonymous
User certificate: <leave blank>
CA Certificate: /etc/raddb/certs/ca.pem
Private Key: /etc/raddb/certs/client.p12
Private Key Password: whatever
 

Same dreaded logs as before :(
