  I'm thinking of gradually pulling the features from the CVS head
into the 1.x branch.  They've been tested for a while, so they
*should* be OK.  I don't want to release a 2.0 until the CVS head has
a few critical things fixed, but the features *should* be used.

  My suggestion:

 1.2.0 = 1.1.2 with autoconf changes
...

  And then continue with pulling in changes.  I don't think it's hard,
it just takes time.

  But before 2.0 comes out, I'd like a suite of regression tests...
