  That's a little surprising.  I had spent some time ensuring it built
under Mingw.  But it shouldn't work like that...

  Windows has this nice idea that sockets aren't file descriptors.  So
the normal Unix code doesn't work.  See:

  There's a whole host of wrapper functions which are needed.
