  Don't do that.  It's wrong.  Do this:

johndoe Cleartext-Password := "johndoepassword"
	Reply-Message = "Hello, %u"

  See the documentation in 1.1.7 for why.

  You're trying to debug the server by looking at the output from the
client.  I fail to understand why anyone thinks this is useful.

  READ the debug output from the server.  It is telling you what is
going wrong, and why.
