Escaped . does match any character

Hi All

I have the following in my users file:


DEFAULT User-Name =~ ".+\.xy at example.com", Auth-Type := Accept,
Proxy-To-Realm := "DONOTREALM"

This Regexp macthes not only user.xy at example.com but also
useraxy at example.com.

Is this a bug, or do I have to escape the . in a different way ?
