Yes.  If you've got any time consuming processes in the live path then you will have radius issues.  The post-auth is party of the live path and therefore if there are delays,  the response from the radius server will be impacted.  Look at your systems and your data processing flow.  Check where time is spent and see if what you are doing is needed in the live path. It may be that what you are doing can be done out of band. 20k auths/s, proxied,  with vanilla config on basic server is basic.  Stick some slow ldap and sql stuff in and you have immediate performance impact
