Thanks so much.  It makes sense now: Redhat patches openssl to fix the security bugs, but the openssl "version" is never updated.

Even my RHEL7 boxes show the same old veriosn:

  ds3:/home/sandmant: cat /etc/redhat-release 
  Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 7.1 (Maipo)
  ds3:/home/sandmant: openssl version
  OpenSSL 1.0.1e-fips 11 Feb 2013

But dang, for now I lost my little window to test ...
