  Better for what?

  If you're running all auth / acct in Perl or Python, then you don't need FreeRADIUS.

  If you're writing policies for FreeRADIUS, then it is very rare to need Perl or Python.  The main reasons people use them are (a) unfamiliarity with "unlang", and (b) using Perl / Python modules to access external APIs not supported directly by FreeRADIUS.

  So you don't usually need them.  If you want to use them, pick whichever one you're most familiar with.  But using them can *drastically* slow down the server.  i.e. drop performance by 90% or more.
