The DHCP relaying code is in FreeRADIUS for a reason. While it doesn't work perfectly yet, there have been a number of requests for it.
What is the rationale for them not to use dhcp-helper ?
I don't use the DHCP functionality in FreeRADIUS at all, but I can imagine that it is useful to let a FreeRADIUS policy decide whether to serve the request locally or to relay it. This is hard to do without an internal relay agent. Much like you can do both proxy and local RADIUS authentication on the same server. You don't really want to have an external RADIUS proxy... Bjørn
