This comes from cf_item_parse ... Are you sure there's no hidden character or escape character somewhere in your config ? What could help Alan/Arran would be to run freeradius from gdb, and break on tls_server_conf_parse. Then you will have to step into cf_section_parse which will parse your tls-config section. Then do step by step until the error arise, so you can see on which statement in your tls config it fails.
