I am trying to download the source on another machine.
If I follow:
git clone git@github.com:FreeRADIUS/freeradius-server.git
cd freeradius-server
git fetch origin v3.1.x:v3.1.x
git checkout v3.1.x
I get error:
$ git fetch origin v3.1.x:v3.1.x
fatal: Couldn't find remote ref v3.1.x
If I try into a new directory
git clone git@github.com:FreeRADIUS/freeradius-server.git
cd freeradius-server
git fetch origin v3.0.x:v3.0.x
git checkout v3.0.x
I get
$ git fetch origin v3.0.x:v3.0.x
>From github.com:FreeRADIUS/freeradius-server

User@User-Zoo MINGW64 ~/Documents/GitHub/freeradius-server (v4.0.x)
$ git checkout v3.0.x

There is no v3.1.x branch. Why are you trying to use v3.1.x? What documentation says to use it? Alan DeKok.

v3.1.x was an unreleased development version. It was removed mainly due to security issues, see http://freeradius.org/security/fuzzer-2017.html use v3.0.x instead. -- Matthew
Thanks Matthew/Alan. FYI I did try v3.0.x as well and got the same problem. However on Ubuntu, I never had a problem. It was only when we wanted the code on a Windows laptop, the problem occurs. Using Git Bash on Windows we tried to download the software and that’s is when we got the error. After deleting all the code as was suggested by git, we got there. I noticed, the code on Ubunu, rlm_pap.c contained the line: static const CONF_PARSER module_config[] = {{ "normalise", FR_CONF_OFFSET(PW_TYPE_BOOLEAN, rlm_pap_t, normify), "yes" }, CONF_PARSER_TERMINATOR }; The code on Windows, rlm_pap.c contained the line: static const CONF_PARSER module_config[] = {{ FR_CONF_OFFSET("normalise", FR_TYPE_BOOL, rlm_pap_t, normify), .dflt = "yes" }, CONF_PARSER_TERMINATOR }; Note the position of "normalise" I have used git hub for years and never seen this issue. I assume the top one is now the latest. Not important, but if you did know why I am seeing this I would like to know Thanks -----Original Message----- From: Freeradius-Devel [mailto:freeradius-devel-bounces+jonathan.anthony=siliconsafe.com@lists.freeradius.org] On Behalf Of Matthew Newton Sent: Monday, November 27, 2017 7:08 PM To: freeradius-devel@lists.freeradius.org Subject: Re: Download source error On Mon, 2017-11-27 at 18:49 +0000, Jonathan Anthony wrote:

FreeRADIUS isn't written for Windows, and none of us use Windows, so if you want to explore the unknown you're on your own...

So they're different commits.

Assuming you've made no changes (this will completely wipe out any local updates) try $ git clean -fdx $ git reset --hard HEAD then do your checkout again. Or just wipe the whole directory and clone it again. Or just install Linux. It's free, and FreeRADIUS works. -- Matthew

Also be aware that Windows does *not* have a case-sensitive filesystem (i.e. rlm_realm.c and rlm_realm.C are the same file), if there is *anything* in the tree that relies on case sensitivity (I doubt that the FR team would allow that to happen, but anyway). This bit me in the ass when I was trying to work with JRadius on Windows back in 2013. RADIUS attribute Java dictionary classes had a fit because of that...
