LDAP = Failed setting connection option certificate_file
New installation (3.0.19) on Mac OS X 10.14.5. I believe I have configured it via the Google directions (well, as modified by a post from a few months back) but I keep getting an Failed setting connection option certificate_file: Unknown error and ldap won't instantiate. Certificate and key are as downloaded from Google, but renamed ldap-client.crt and ldap-client.key - these are just intended to be used to connect to the Google SecureLDAP service which we want to use for authentication on our new WiFi network. Do I need to make a .pem file with more than just the .crt? It's been a long time since I last did a freeradius setup and that one was pre-installed with the Server.app and required only minimal tweaking to connect to a local OpenDirectory service. Since OD has been all but abandoned by Apple, trying to move to Google's service... Just to close the loop on this, creating a PEM with the full chain wasn't enough. But I was able to bypass the certificate error by using stunnel. That's bad. It's just not necessary. And, it breaks *other* authentication methods. If the only thing you're doing is PAP to Google's LDAP server, it's fine. But it *will* break for everything else. Their directions are needlessly complex. Alan DeKok.
Ok, if I test via the wireless controller the user credentials are accepted by Google, but with a client it fails. Checking via radtest it works for the first test, but when I try the mschap test mode it fails. Is that what you were warning me about? Is there some configuration I've messed up and fixing that will solve the issue or have I hit an impasse? That's bad. It's just not necessary. And, it breaks *other* authentication methods.
If the only thing you're doing is PAP to Google's LDAP server, it's fine. But it *will* break for everything else.
Their directions are needlessly complex.

Google stores the passwords, and *won't* give them to FreeRADIUS. Google also doesn't do MS-CHAP. FreeRADIUS does MS-CHAP. But FreeRADIUS needs access to the passwords, in order to do the MS-CHAP calculations. The only way around this is: a) use your own LDAP server, which can then give the passwords to FreeRADIUS b) get the clients to do TTLS + PAP instead of PEAP + MS-CHAP. Nothing else will work.
