Poll: Which OS for pre-built packages?
We've release packages for Debian "Wheezy", Ubuntu "Trusty", and Centos 6.5. The question now is which *other* OS packages does the community need? Please respond with suggestions. If there is enough demand, we can supply packages for common systems. Alan DeKok.
We use FreeBSD. Having a package closer to the time of release would be very helpful. Thanks for considering.. -----Original Message----- From: freeradius-users-bounces+neal.garber=iberdrolausa.com@lists.freeradius.org [mailto:freeradius-users-bounces+neal.garber=iberdrolausa.com@lists.freeradius.org] On Behalf Of Alan DeKok Sent: Thursday, September 11, 2014 3:16 PM To: FreeRadius users mailing list Subject: Poll: Which OS for pre-built packages? ubuntu precise (being a still-supported LTS) and centos 7 should be a good choice to add. -- Fajar
Hi, OSX as a DMG? <ducks!> ;-) I'd probably say that the distros that have had historic support in the source should all have a look-in - so eg SUSE should be there too alan

Nah there's already a brew package, no point in DMGs. -Arran Arran Cudbard-Bell <a.cudbardb@freeradius.org> FreeRADIUS development team FD31 3077 42EC 7FCD 32FE 5EE2 56CF 27F9 30A8 CAA2

Du lieber Himmel. *horrified face* Alan, as for packages… Well, CentOS 6.x, CentOS 7.x, Ubuntu 12.04 (precise) and higher, Debian 6 (squeeze) and higher would be good. I'm guessing OpenSUSE and SciLinux could also do with support, but unfortunately I don't have any information on them. There are some… tweaks… between CentOS 6.4 and 6.5 when it comes to OpenSSL support, so there are some bits that don't build for 6.4 that do for 6.5 (speaking from experience), so this may mean separate repos. Builds for various releases of both openSUSE and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) are available via the openSUSE Build Service @ http://software.opensuse.org/package/freeradius-server - click "Show other versions" below the Direct Install button then you may need to click "Show unstable packages" below the relevant distribution. I'd suggest not reinventing the wheel but simply link to the above URL for packages of latest openSUSE and SLES builds. ... and it shows that the latest stable version (OS 13.1) is still stuck at 2.2.0. And while there are others who build 3.0.3 packages (including official OS factory), apparently I'm the only one who builds 2.2.5 there (which should be an easier upgrade path for 2.x users who simply want bug fixes)

I think the key word here is "official". Suse is apparently not interested in providing official up-to-date packages (which, up to a certain degree, is understandable). So official FR package is a good thing for those who want to run the latest version. I'd just simply stop updating 2.2.x unofficial packages should an official build becomes available. -- Fajar
