dhcp server and logging
Hello. I don't understand what is missing in my config to make freeradius (3.0.12) logging what is doing about DHCP queries / replies. I'm using module dhcp_sqlippool, which set things like : sqlippool_log_exists = "DHCP: Existing IP: %{reply:Framed-IP-Address} (did %{Called-Station-Id} cli %{Calling-Station-Id} port %{NAS-Port} user %{User-Name})" sqlippool_log_success = "DHCP: Allocated IP: %{reply:Framed-IP-Address} from %{control:Pool-Name} (did %{Called-Station-Id} cli %{Calling-Station-Id} port %{NAS-Port} user %{User-Name})" sqlippool_log_clear = "DHCP: Released IP %{Framed-IP-Address} (did %{Called-Station-Id} cli %{Calling-Station-Id} user %{User-Name})" sqlippool_log_failed = "DHCP: IP Allocation FAILED from %{control:Pool-Name} (did %{Called-Station-Id} cli %{Calling-Station-Id} port %{NAS-Port} user %{User-Name})" sqlippool_log_nopool = "DHCP: No Pool-Name defined (did %{Called-Station-Id} cli %{Calling-Station-Id} port %{NAS-Port} user %{User-Name})" But nothing is logged. And I can not find the good doc to learn how linelog works.I found this thread : http://freeradius.1045715.n5.nabble.com/DHCP-in-FreeRadius-3-and-logging-td5... But It did not help me. I'm missing something... Can somebody help me / point me in the right direction ? Regards.

sqlippool_log_success = "DHCP: Allocated IP: %{reply:Framed-IP-Address} from %{control:Pool-Name} (did %{Called-Station-Id} cli %{Calling-Station-Id} port %{NAS-Port} user %{User-Name})"

sqlippool_log_nopool = "DHCP: No Pool-Name defined (did %{Called-Station-Id} cli %{Calling-Station-Id} port %{NAS-Port} user %{User-Name})"
But nothing is logged. And I can not find the good doc to learn how linelog works.I found this thread :

I think you need something like this in mods-enabled/linelog linelog linelog-pool { filename = ${logdir}/linelog-pool.log format = "" reference = "%{%{control:Module-Success-Message[#]}:-0}" 0 = "No attribute Module-Success-Message" 1 = "%S %{control:Module-Success-Message}" } Then just call the linelog module by putting "linelog-pool" in your sites-enabled/foo config file

You should upgrade to 3.0.17.
logging what is doing about DHCP queries / replies. I'm using module dhcp_sqlippool, which set things like :
Yes, we know that. Please don't post config files to the list. We know what they look like.
But nothing is logged.
Run the server in debug mode as *all* of the documentation says to do. Then, *read* the output. If you don't understand it, read: http://wiki.freeradius.org/radiusd-X Or post it here.
And I can not find the good doc to learn how linelog works.
The configuration file for the "linelog" module contains decent documentation. Do you have a *specific* question? Alan DeKok.

I've already done that, I did not see anything related to a logging problem. I think something is missing in my config, and radiusd −X does not show that !
If you don't understand it, read: http://wiki.freeradius.org/radiusd-X

And I can not find the good doc to learn how linelog works.
The configuration file for the "linelog" module contains decent documentation. Do you have a *specific* question?
Yes, my specific question is : how do I get the sqlippool messages in freeradius logfile when a DHCP event occurs" ? And additional question : is ther a way to log to a SQL table (event, date, mac, ip address, ...) Regards

I've already done that, I did not see anything related to a logging problem. I think something is missing in my config, and radiusd −X does not show that !
If the linelog module doesn't appear in the debug output, then it means that you didn't: a) enable the module or b) configure the virtual server to use the module. ..

<sigh> Go read http://wiki.freeradius.org/radiusd-X In order for us to see what happens when the server PROCESSES A PACKET, we need to see the server PROCESSING A PACKET.

The documentation for the sqlippool module says where the messages go: They're in an attribute in the control list. The documentation for "unlang" tells you how to reference / access attributes. The documentation for the "linelog" module tells you how to create log messages from attribute references.

You can write custom SQL queries yourself to log to SQL. Alan DeKok.
