Hi Team, Recently I have installed free radius server with daloradius GUI. I am trying to configure mac based authentication and for this I have added MAC address on daloradius server GUI in colon format. Now the problem I am facing is when my access point is sending MAC request to freeradius server it's getting rejected. When I am checking the debug logs in username MAC address is showing in plain format like 00224DD1042B this. Can anyone please help how I can achieve this mac authentication? In DaloRADIUS, did you try to add a single MAC Address through the 'New User' and then 'MAC Address Authentication' option? Does that work? I have used FreeRADIUS + DaloRADIUS with MAC based authentication, without any special modifications in the FreeRADIUS config for MAC based authentication. Hi Jochem, Appreciate your response. Yes, I have done this but authentication is getting failed. When I am checking the logs through sudo freeradius -X, it shows user not found. In username mac address is showing like "00224DD1042B" and in dalo radius I have added a mac "00:22:4D:D1:04:2B" in this format. Just add your MAC address users to DaloRADIUS in the format without semicolons (i.e. "00224DD1042B") and your problem will be solved. That seems the easiest option to me. The link that Michael Schwartzkopff sent (https://wiki.freeradius.org/guide/mac-auth) explains about rewriting the various format. That's your other option. I tried this as well but unfortunately DaloRadius requires Mac Address in colon format. If I try to add it without semicolons, it shows an error "Invalid Mac Address format". You have mentioned that in your case it's working fine. So it is possible if you can let me know how you have installed FreeRADIUS + DaloRADIUS, then I can try the same step. Just add your MAC address users to DaloRADIUS in the format without semicolons (i.e. "00224DD1042B") and your problem will be solved. That seems the easiest option to me.

Appreciate your response. Yes, I have done this but authentication is getting failed. When I am checking the logs through sudo freeradius -X, it shows user not found. In username mac address is showing like "00224DD1042B" and in dalo radius I have added a mac "00:22:4D:D1:04:2B" in this format.
So I am a little confused here, When I am doing mac based authentication then why freeradius is checking username. Can you please be able to help me with this?

Recently I have installed free radius server with daloradius GUI. I am trying to configure mac based authentication and for this I have added MAC address on daloradius server GUI in colon format. Now the problem I am facing is when my access point is sending MAC request to freeradius server it's getting rejected. When I am checking the debug logs in username MAC address is showing in plain format like 00224DD1042B this. Can anyone please help how I can achieve this mac authentication?

You need to consider what the source of the RADIUS request is doing. In this case, (I’m assuming WiFI hotspot) It’s taking the information from a devices DHCP request and put it into a RADIUS attribute. Sadly, neither the attribute used nor the formatting of the data is well defined. So if you have >1 type of RADIUS client you may see all sort of variability eg no-colons, colons, uppercase, lowercase, with a prefix / suffix etc. Common solution for mac address matching is to convert the incoming mac-address (here in the username attribute) to a single format that is in the user database. This requires configuration that I’m not going to try to write, partly because I’m sure such examples have been posted here in the past. Then ensure that the user database uses the same format probably by using the same logic to ensure its always in your chosen canonical form. If you are lucky and have only one “RADIUS client” type. Just ensure the user-database format matches what you receive, and your first issue will be solved. Alister Winfield. Sadly, neither the attribute used nor the formatting of the data is well defined. Common solution for mac address matching is to convert the incoming mac-address (here in the username attribute) to a single format that is in the user database. Then ensure that the user database uses the same format probably by using the same logic to ensure its always in your chosen canonical form.
If you are lucky and have only one “RADIUS client” type. Just ensure the user-database format matches what you receive, and your first issue will be solved.

I already pointed out the doc that includes the description on MAC address normalization in the FR policies. That should end the discussion about MAC address formats, because the solution is obvious.

Appreciate your response. Yes, I have done this but authentication is getting failed. When I am checking the logs through sudo freeradius -X, it shows user not found. In username mac address is showing like "00224DD1042B" and in dalo radius I have added a mac "00:22:4D:D1:04:2B" in this format.
So I am a little confused here, When I am doing mac based authentication then why freeradius is checking username. Can you please be able to help me with this?

Recently I have installed free radius server with daloradius GUI. I am trying to configure mac based authentication and for this I have added MAC address on daloradius server GUI in colon format. Now the problem I am facing is when my access point is sending MAC request to freeradius server it's getting rejected.
