if distro packages is what you like then sure - however you are stuck with
what they can be bothered doing - I would ask kindly why they arent keeping
track with releaases (point out the Changelog and the fixed bugs...). do
they have the same 'old version' policy for the usual suspects - apache,
BIND, samba ? its quite limiting running software almost 2 years old...

there are alternatives for packages too eg
