It's not necessary. But if you ask questions, the usual response will be "it will be easier if you upgrade".
Also, anyone could give me a hint on how to upgrade easily without getting complications?
Much of the configuration remains the same, or similar. I woudl suggest going through your existing configuration, and gradually copying it (with edits) to the default configuration for 2.x. Alan DeKok.
