If the server sends an Access-Challenge, and nothing else happens, the user's machine is *choosing* to not continue the conversation.
XP and Linux machines are known to work with 2.0.5. If 1.1.7 works for you, and 2.0.5 doesn't, it's *very* likely because the configurations are different.
i.e. You have 1.1.7 using one certificate, and 2.0.5 using a different certificate.
The Linux wpa_supplicant code is *very* good, and works with *all* versions of FreeRADIUS. There is just no way that it will work with 1.1.7 and *not* with 2.0.5... unless the configurations are different.
