I don't know about "acceptable", but it can work. It's a feature of the LDAP libraries to use that method for fail-over.

It seems to work in the testing that I have done, but I am not sure that it is the correct way to setup a failover ldap server.

FreeRADIUS has it's own fail-over mechanism. They're probably similar enough that the above method works, too. Alan DeKok.
