No. You do not need local users in /etc/passwd.
No matter how I try it, I cannot get it to see past the shared key of the localhost.
It shouldn't really be that hard. Perhaps you could try posting detailed logs of what you're doing (both client & server), and snippets from the config files. Alan DeKok.
