      Here is how I do it (this is for traffic in a particular month)

         SELECT
             username,
             truncate(sum(acctinputoctets + acctoutputoctets) / 1000000, 
1) traffic
         FROM radacct
         WHERE
             month(acctstarttime) = 12 AND
             year(acctstarttime) = 2011
         GROUP BY username

This assumes you are using mysql for accounting.
