I've seen similar problems with freeradius on Debian (no LDAP involved). That's why i changed "reload" to "restart" in the logrotate snippets. Never had a single problem sincle.
As of 2.2.2 (and 3.0.0) you can just use /usr/sbin/radmin -e 'hup main.log' to rotate the mainlog, with no side effects. That's by far the best solution, especially if the server is busy. Arran Cudbard-Bell <a.cudbardb@freeradius.org> FreeRADIUS Development Team
