I checked the config.log files and the shared objects with ldd - all headers are found and the correct library files are used. For that reason, everything is great for me - thank you very much for your help,

And you didn't test the "configure" script as I requested. It's nice to know you have a solution which works for you, is unusual, undocumented, and you don't care to help other people, so that they don't run into the same problem. Alan DeKok.
