Ok, there is some confusion here. You are using a captive portal, so it's actually your captive portal web-based login that is doing CHAP - the Apple/Android devices are just doing HTTP forms-based login. If Apple devices aren't working, it's a problem with the captive portal. Captive portals are just web pages from the client point of view.
