Hello there, I get the following error when trying to test the username and password for johndoe. I used this tutorial online. https://computingforgeeks.com/how-to-install-freeradius-and-daloradius-on-ub... If you could help me figure it out, that’d be appreciated. Ignoring request to auth address * port 1812 bound to server default from unknown client xx.xx.xx.xx port 42407 proto udpudp Thank you!
Franny, You need to create the "client" entry into the /etc/raddb/clients.conf, please open the file and take a look at existente examples. On Mon, Jul 1, 2019 at 6:51 PM Franny Lim via Freeradius-Users < freeradius-users@lists.freeradius.org> wrote:

Sorry about that. I have a website I’m using. That site is linked up to the radius server. That radius server is linked up to a SoftEther server. I can authenticate directly to the SoftEther server but not via the radius server. The error I get when I use the example user is Ignoring request to auth address * port 1812 bound to server default from unknown client xx.xx.xx.xx port 42407 proto udpudp This error comes up when I try to log on via the site to authenticate to the radius serve to access the SoftEther server. I’ve added the wild card * to the SoftEther server. Hopefully this all made sense. Sent from my iPhone

The “udpudp” looks to be a typo in your config file. Rename “udpudp” by “udp” Therefore, as Matthew said, Please read http://wiki.freeradius.org/list-help <http://wiki.freeradius.org/list-help> You should send the debug output. — Jorge Pereira

Therefore, as Matthew said, Please read http://wiki.freeradius.org/list-help <http://wiki.freeradius.org/list-help> You should send the debug output.

Sorry about that.
I have a website I’m using. That site is linked up to the radius server. That radius server is linked up to a SoftEther server. I can authenticate directly to the SoftEther server but not via the radius server. The error I get when I use the example user is
Ignoring request to auth address * port 1812 bound to server default from unknown client xx.xx.xx.xx port 42407 proto udpudp
This error comes up when I try to log on via the site to authenticate to the radius serve to access the SoftEther server. I’ve added the wild card * to the SoftEther server.
Hopefully this all made sense.

You were given the command to run to fix the problem. What has a web server got to do it? To be frank, it looks like you really need to go and learn how to do systems administration first, and then come back and look at running a RADIUS server. If you've not got a grasp on starting and stopping processes, then this is going to be really difficult for you (as well as for us).
radiusd: #### Opening IP addresses and Ports #### listen { type = "auth" ipaddr = 127.0.0.1 port = 18120 Failed binding to auth address 127.0.0.1 port 18120 bound to server inner-tunnel: Address already in use /etc/freeradius/3.0/sites-enabled/inner-tunnel[33]: Error binding to port for 127.0.0.1 port 18120
As Paul said - stop the FreeRADIUS server process that's already running in the background, and then you'll be able to start a new one up again. -- Matthew
That’s the localhost. You are on the server directly right? Do you have a firewall running that is blocking the port? Are you really wanting to use port 18120 and not 1812? I’m just a newbie to FreeRadius. I haven’t even successfully made it work the way I want. I haven’t had time to formulate a question to this list as to what I’m trying to do. Paul et all, First off, thank you for taking the time to help via email, I am a freeradius noob. If I could buy your guys a round of beers, I would! Second, I thought I misconfigured everything so I did a fresh install of freeradius. I installed it via the steps below. sudo apt-get install freeradius sudo freeradius -CX “appears to be ok” popped up. sudo vi clients.conf client private-network-1 { ipaddr = 35.21.xx.xx/24 secret = testing123 sudo vi users frank Cleartext-Password := “password" radtest frank password 127.0.0.1 0 testing123 “Accept-Accept” popped up service freeradius start After all that, I added a * to the softether server as that’s the wildcard for users in a radius server. From what I understand, as long as the * is there, the radius server setting are configured in the softether server, then all should work. However, I keep getting the below error. Sat Jul 6 15:19:49 2019 : Error: Ignoring request to auth address * port 1812 bound to server default from unknown client 35.21.xx.xx port 37615 proto udp Below is the output of the freeradius -X command. After all this, I have no clue what I’m doing wrong. If you don’t mind, could you take a look and see where I’m doing things wrong? Thank you again!

If I change the IP below to the web server will that work?

You have to tell FreeRADIUS about the client.
However, I keep getting the below error.
Sat Jul 6 15:19:49 2019 : Error: Ignoring request to auth address * port 1812 bound to server default from unknown client 35.21.xx.xx port 37615 proto udp
Edit clients.conf, and add that client IP / secret. Alan DeKok.
I did Alan, I placed the IP of the softether server in the clients.conf as well as the secret. But still getting errors.

If you put the IP and secret into clients.conf, then it will work. Read the debug output to see *which* file it's reading. Then, edit that file. Also, read the debug output. It prints out the clients it's loading. This printout includes the IP address and shared secret. If the IP / shared secret doesn't exist in the debug output, then you're not editing the right file. Alan DeKok.
Franny, I am *far* from a FreeRADIUS expert, however... You indicated that you put "ipaddr = 35.21.xx.xx/24" into clients.conf. That looks like a /16 subnet to me. Try "ipaddr = 35.21.xx.xx/16" instead? -Mark On Sat, Jul 6, 2019 at 3:55 PM Alan DeKok <aland@deployingradius.com> wrote:

hi,
client private-network-1 { ipaddr = 35.21.xx.xx/24 secret = testing123
okay
Sat Jul 6 15:19:49 2019 : Error: Ignoring request to auth address * port 1812 bound to server default from unknown client 35.21.xx.xx port 37615 proto udp
right. so, in this xx.xx (please dont use that, use eg xx.yy is the first xx of that the same? if so, then it is a /24 - if not, and that first value can change, then its not a /24 but something with a large subnect mask (I cannot assume its a /16 - the xx range might only be eg 4 bits or so - either way, if the xx value of the client isnt the same as the xx in your clients.conf then a /24 wont match it - hence you see that error, alan
Alan is, of course, right. I was (I think) on the right track, but I oversimplified a bit. -Mark On Sun, Jul 7, 2019 at 2:56 PM Alan Buxey <alan.buxey@gmail.com> wrote:

It helps to accurately describe what you're doing. Plus, mangling IP addresses makes it more difficult to see what's going on. As always, the harder it is to help people, the less useful help is given. Alan DeKok.
