Hi All, We are just warming up to radius implementation, I am testing on OpenSuSE13.2 with the following packages: freeradius-server-3.0.3-3.8.1.x86_64 freeradius-server-libs-3.0.3-3.8.1.x86_64 freeradius-server-ldap-3.0.3-3.8.1.x86_64 freeradius-server-utils-3.0.3-3.8.1.x86_64 Running through the basic tests as outlined in the 'Getting Started' section of freeradius.org. radius:~ # echo "User-Name=testing,User-Password=password" | radclient 127.0.0.1 auth testing123 The result is: Sending Access-Request Id 170 from 0.0.0.0:41075 to 127.0.0.1:1812 User-Name = 'testing' User-Password = 'password' Received Access-Accept Id 170 from 127.0.0.1:1812 to 127.0.0.1:41075 length 20 As expected, however the output continues from there: *** Error in `radclient': free(): invalid pointer: You might consider using the 3.0.9 builds already available: https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/network/freeradius-server In my own repo I also enabled builds for openSUSE 13.2: https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/home:stroeder:branches:network/freer... Ciao, Michael.

Already done Michael, thanks so much for packaging those up :)! Works a treat.

The initial packaging was done by SUSE team members - kudos belongs to them. In general looking at the openSUSE build service is an easy way to keep up with upstream releases of important software packages, here FreeRADIUS, in case you're using a fairly recent openSUSE / SLES release. Ciao, Michael.

Seriously. Can someone explain the thinking behind users reporting defects on out of date versions? Do they expect us to go back in time, to before we did that release and fix it, so they don't experience the issue in the present? Do they expect us to release patched versions of the 3.0.3 SuSE packages? What's the deal here? Why do people do this? OP isn't the first... This was even mentioned explicitly in the CONTRIBUTING doc I posted a couple of weeks ago: 2.BEFORE REPORTING A DEFECT Verify it's still present in the Git HEAD. Checkout the appropriate branch for the version of the server you're working with as listed here (http://doc.freeradius.org), build the server, and attempt to reproduce your issue. The ChangeLog (https://github.com/FreeRADIUS/freeradius-server/blob/v3.0.x/doc/ChangeLog) for the current stable branch may also be used to determine if your issue has already been addressed. The ChangeLog is updated as fixes are made to the server code, and usually reflects the state of the Git HEAD. Do not report non-security defects for EOL branches (as listed on doc.freeradius.org), they will be closed and locked. -Arran

I think most people try to stick to a "stable" software combination provided by their favourite Linux distro, for whatever definition of "stable". I guess the best way for you to handle this is to have an auto-text snippet in your favourite MUA when responding. ;-) Ciao, Michael.

Seriously. Can someone explain the thinking behind users reporting defects on out of date versions?
Simple. "I'm using a piece of software, and when I run into a problem, I ask a question about it".
Do they expect us to go back in time, to before we did that release and fix it, so they don't experience the issue in the present?
It's not that complicated. The failure is in not checking for themselves if the bug is fixed: Q: Hi, I'm using version X of software foo-bar, and it has a bug. What do I do? A: Uh... the release notes for version X+1 says "fixed the bug you're talking about".
What's the deal here? Why do people do this? OP isn't the first...
It's the belief that we're supporting the software we write. Coupled with the belief that it's easier to ask questions than to actually do anything yourself... Alan DeKok.
