Hi, in attachment patch to add rlm_sql_ocioracle driver to freeradius 2.1.x tree (it seems work yet on 3.x tree). This drivers permit to use function/procedure with CURSOR (through :Ret_Cursor string) like for example: group_membership_query = "begin :Ret_Cursor := \ pkRadius.group_membership_query('%{SQL-User-Name}'); end;" TODO for next release: - add support to oracle connection pool instead of open a new connection for every socket on startup; - enhancement on handle error (through error callback) on do query; - add documentation. Good day, community. 1. I need to organize interaction of freeradius with java-based backend, running as web service. So, I wrote small module, which packed received radius packet into google protocol buffer message and submit one to web service via persistent http connection: https://github.com/rssh/rlm_protobuf Interaction is done via next 'idl': https://github.com/rssh/rlm_protobuf/blob/master/src/vsa.proto freeradius give to service request_reply, then return with allow_reply_request set of actions, which we do need with pairs (add new one or remove or change) I want submit this module to freeradius, when It will be mature, but not sure: will one be generally useful and are you will be happy with 2 new optional dependencies (curl and protobuf-c) [?]. If yes -- I will start submit path requests after achieving working state. (now I assured that requests flow works, but yet not test all possible issues with authorization and service restart) 2. Yet one question for community -- it's about how people prefer to see representation of radius attributes in protocol buffers IDL. In present 'zero' version all nontrivial attributes are stored as array of bytes. In my task this is enough, but potentially such choice can cause issues with byte ordering, so may be better to create special message types for each type of attribute. So, I will be happy to see community opinion: (especially for #define PW_TYPE_ETHERNET and PW_TYPE_IFID) At last, I will be glad to see any feedback about this idea and thanks for great software. I suggest you take them to a Java or Android mailing list. In any case, freeradius-devel is not a general RADIUS discussion list. Need help on Android

Hi, I have been trying to implement a RADIUS client on Android; however, it has been going slow and I am not sure I am using the right path. I'd greatly appreciate any advise or pointers that you could pass along. For the starting point, I have tried a piece of client code I found on coova.org on my Mac ( http://dev.coova.org/svn/cjradius/tags/jradius-1.1.4/example/src/main/java/…) and it works just fine. Then, I migrated JRADIUS to Android. With the same source code, I get exceptions as followed. Thanks for your help. Some things of interest maybe: ExecStartPre=/usr/sbin/radiusd -C ExecStart=/usr/sbin/radiusd -d /etc/raddb The config check doesn't explicitly set the config dir, while startup does. if $raddbdir != /etc/raddb, the config check will test a different configuration than what startup uses. On FC, you may simply want to set that in sync (with FR's built-in knowledge where to find raddb, maybe simply leave out the -d on ExecStart?), but for the general distribution, we could include it into the "auto" build system so that all paths are filled in with what is set during configure time. Would affect PIDFile=/var/run/radiusd/radiusd ExecStartPre=-/bin/chown -R radiusd.radiusd /var/run/radiusd ExecStartPre=/usr/sbin/radiusd -C ExecStart=/usr/sbin/radiusd -d /etc/raddb ExecReload=/usr/sbin/radiusd -C All these work on explicit paths. I'm not much into autohell, what I meant is that there should be some kind of "radiusd.service.in" which expands PIDFile=${localstatedir}/run/radiusd/radiusd ExecStartPre=-/bin/chown -R radiusd.radiusd ${localstatedir}/run/radiusd ExecStartPre=/usr/sbin/radiusd -C ExecStart=${sbindir}/radiusd ExecReload=${sbindir}/radiusd -C during "make" to the values that were found out/set during configure. Remove with_ntdomain_hack in rlm_mschap?

Does this config option make any sense? Shouldn't it always be on? The only thing it controls is the username to feed into the MS-CHAP challenge generation, and AFAICT from RFC 2759, we should *always* ignore DOM\ for that. Certainly windows does. I found this out today - if you have "with_ntdomain_hack = no", ticking the "Use my windows credentials" box for wired/wireless 802.1x login doesn't work with a default FR config. Perhaps we should remove it for 3.x?

Testing 3.0/master

So, I've just compiled up the current "master", and a few things stand out. Using my existing 2.1.12 config: 1. EAP-TTLS/MSCHAP doesn't seem to work any more; the MS-CHAP challenge/response are wrong. PEAP works fine. Haven't looked into this yet. 2. rlm_eap_tls now mandates "private_key_password" even if the key is not encrypted on disk. You can specify anything - but you must specify it. Behaviour change, but not particularly onerous. 3. Fast Session resumption seems to give a segfault - request_finish calls pairfree on process.c:1085 and the value seems to be corrupt. The backtrace is a bit useless, since most of the values are optimised out (grr gcc) but I will try to get more info. Will follow up with more as I figure out the cause(s)

EAP-TLS & authorize & LDAP -> non-sane default

Hello, some admins who deploy EAP-TLS brought an interesting note to my attention (can't actually verify it, as I don't have their sophisticated setup)... The story goes like that - EAP-TLS does not have inner EAP, so there is no inner virtual server for it - if you want to authorization checks for the user, it has to happen on outer server (say, ask LDAP for some user attributes) - the default ldap filter expression uses (Stripped) User-Name - User-Name in EAP-TLS can be set arbitrarily by the end user as outer identity -> FreeRADIUS by default performs authorisation checks with an unvetted, user-supplied string So, if John Doe has a valid certificate, but is not authorized for network access, but he knows that Jane Donk *is* authorized, he could set anon ID = Jane Donk, and use his own certificate. authorize passes with Jane's User-Name, and authentication passes with John's proper certificate. That's all no tragedy; after all, it's just the *default* behaviour of the LDAP module, and can be changed. People may want to "channel bind" the two values on their own by enforcing User-Name == TLS-Client-Cert-Common-Name or so. I'm just wondering if we could by default ship a config which would prefer cert content, such as Common Name, over unvetted information so as to have a more sane default. I'm guessing that changing the ldap module's "filter" config item should do, from filter = "(uid=%{%{Stripped-User-Name}:-%{User-Name}})" to filter = "(uid=%{%{TLS-Client-Cert-Common-Name}:-%{%{Stripped-User-Name}:-%{User-Name}}))" (uh, I'm sure I got those curly braces wrong... bear with me...) That expression would do the same as before in all cases except when EAP types with Client TLS certificates are used, and would only then use the CN. Is there any sense in what I write? Potential problems in 2.1.12 discovered by Coverity static source code scan

We've started to perform static source code analysis on things we ship in the interest of trying to improve quality. We've been very impressed with the Coverity tools, they do an excellent job of finding problems. Coverity is not open source but they support open source projects by providing access to open source projects to some of their tools (you might consider registering with Covertiy). We have a Coverity license and have been granted permission to share our scan results with our upstream open source projects. We have just completed a scan on version 2.1.12 and I wanted to share the results. They are attached. Not every item flagged by the scan is meaningful, but we've learned by running the scans on our own code quite a bit of what is reported were actually undiscovered problems worth fixing. I recognize the timing would have been better if the scan had been performed prior to the release but we're still in the process of getting Coverity integrated into our tool chain. I wonder if the problems cropping up in 3.0 might be identified by a Coverity scan ... cert bootstrap script change: no more MD5?

Hi, the bootstrap script uses ca.cnf, server.cnf and client.cnf for the generated certificates. All of these set the default_md = md5. iOS 5 is the first OS to condemn certificates which are signed by MD5. So, the default certificates generated by this script will not be compatible with recent iOS. Does anything speak against up'ing the default_md to sha1? Otherwise I can see questions on -user coming up saying EAP doesn't work - and this time with a particularly difficult to diagnose issue. Greetings, Stefan Winter

new rlm_sql connection pool logic

Hi All, Alan mercilessly ripped out all the connection pool logic in rlm_sql and replaced it with calls to the generic connection pool API which is new in 3.0. In anyone's running an SQL DB and wants to test it'd be much appreciated. New code is in Master@HEAD. WARNING: This change breaks compatibility with V2.0 configs, you will need an empty pool { } stanza in each instance of rlm_sql configuration or the server will fail to load. The following configuration items no longer have any effect: num_sql_socks, connect_failure_retry_delay, lifetime, max_queries. Hi guys, I was installing freeradius and after complete successfull installation and some configuration , while testing by running freeradius -X i was getting some errors as below: /etc/freeradius/sql.conf[22]: Instantiation failed for module "sql" /etc/freeradius/sites-enabled/default[159]: Failed to find module "sql". /etc/freeradius/sites-enabled/default[62]: Errors parsing authorize section. I have tried fix without any luck. Can some one help on this? -- Thanks Kambey

[libfreeradius-client] Send request to non-standard ports

Hi, I'm trying to send radius auth request to the 11812 port. So i've placed 11812 as second parameter of the rc_auth function. On my server's log, I can see that the NAS-PORT is set, in the request, to 11812. But the request itself is sent to the standard 1812 port .. How can I change that ? I need to send some request to 1812 and some others to 11812 (two radius servers are running). I've looked at the example code but they are just using the port parameter of rc_auth, so I can't find a way to make it work. (I'll need to do the same with accounting too) Thanks
