FreeRADIUS Accounting Logging to Two Separate Locations Simultaneously

All, I could use some help in understanding my options for the following scenario: In our environment, FreeRADIUS currently writes its Accounting logs to the local drive - one file per authorized client. In addition to the local logging, the Security group wants the Accounting logs sent to their logging cluster (in real-time) so they can put them in their elasticsearch database and respond to incidents. My question: What is the best way to make both the Ops and Security groups happy given the below limitations: - The Security group does not want to pull the logs from MySQL, as they want to use logstash/elasticsearch and this would just complicate things. - The Ops group wants to avoid syslog because they fear syslog could block, causing their production FreeRADIUS servers to eventually stop responding to requests. ------ The options we are exploring, in order of preference: 1. "Robust Accounting" - the Ops team believes there is a way to have the logs written to two locations simultaneously - locally and remotely, and if the remote connection is lost it does not impact operations. Is this possible? Does anyone have a sample config they could share? 2. Re-configure FreeRADIUS to write to one giant log-file, rotated hourly. A script would then essentially 'tail -f' the log file and stream the logs to the Security group (and would handle the hourly filename changes obviously). 3. Re-configure FreeRADIUS to log to syslog, and have syslog write to a local file AND send remotely to the Security group. The Ops group wants to avoid syslog if at all possible. 4. Re-configure FreeRADIUS to also log to MySQL. The Security group would then have to figure out a way to pull the data out in near-real time and insert it into their own database, which they would like to avoid. Hi. I'm assigning profiles from ldap to User-Profile and I have a corner case where a user can actually have multiple profiles which returns more then one record and nothing gets assigned to User-Profile. Is there a way to specify sizelimit for a ldap lookup to 1? thanks Martin

Hello list, first of all a bit background about my environment: - CentOS 6.4 - FreeRADIUS Version 2.1.12, for host x86_64-redhat-linux-gnu, built on Oct 3 2012 at 01:22:51 - OpenLDAP: slapd 2.4.23 (Apr 29 2013 07:47:08) Here we use Microsoft Active Directory (not in our responsibility) for User Authentication. I have set up an OpenLDAP Master/ Slave construct (syncrepl) for RADIUS authorization and (fallback) authentication, like: LDAP Master | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | RADIUS Primary RADIUS Secondary local LDAP copy local LDAP copy All RADIUS authorization information are stored in the OpenLDAP DIT using RADIUS profiles. The usernames in OpenLDAP DIT and in Active Directory are the same. The normal scenario should be: - retrieve authorization from openldap dit (module ldap_openldap) - authenticate the user (password verification) against active directory (module ldap_ad) o if active directory server isn't reachable check password against module ldap_openldap Problem: After the module ldap_openldap has found the DN for the requesting user freeradius uses the same DN to bind against module ldap_ad. I know this can't work. Is there a possible solution for this using ldap? - Configure module ldap_ad to determine the DN of user again? - Rewrite DN? If not, would this work using ntlm_auth? Hi all, I'm using FR 2.2.0 with Oracle 11g. Now I'm collecting Accounting records into Oracle DB with sql xlat which call a function in PL/SQL. For example in debug mode it expands like below: "%{sql:select wifi_acct.onlineStart(..., '%{Class[*]}',..) from dual}" "TestCL: v=1234;TestCL2: w=5678" => "TestCL: v=3D123456=3BTestCL2: w=3D5678" Here comes the problem, through xlat content of '%{Class[*]}' in SQL string was turned into something like URL encoded string(but not exactly the same) while executing my PL/SQL function. Anyone knows what encode format it is? Any advice would be appreciated! Okis

So, uncommenting the dialup.conf include appears to have gotten me much further, but radius is still having trouble connecting to the database. A couple things I noted from the above output (which differs from my first posted debug): default_user_profile = "" nas_query = "SELECT id, nasname, shortname, type, secret, server FROM nas" 1. Should I be specifying a default user profile? 2. I don't have a table in my radiusDB called 'nas'. More on PostgreSQL. My /var/lib/psql/data/pg_hba.conf is WIDE OPEN, though it may be missing something more specific (the database is also on localhost): local all all trust host all all 127.0.0.1/32 trust host all all ::1/128 trust It's worth note that I intend to tighten security for the DB once I actually get things working. > It depends on what you need. Yes, it's quite possible I broke something, and thanks so much for your assistance thus far. I have already succeeded in getting FreeRADIUS file-based auth (users) to authenticate Squid users. My goals are: - SSO for Squid and hopefully pptp, using FreeRADIUS auth to authenticate users for these services. - Leveraging PostgreSQL to store user credentials and accounting information for traffic usage. User configuration that we are using currently with freeradius is commented below.. we are not getting any errors with cisco devices that supports PPP. But, Cisco 887 Vag device doesnt support PPP protocol at 3g interfaces.
