logrotaion for detail module (auth-detail.log)

Hi, I have a question about logrotation and how FreeRADIUS handle the situation when the log file renamed or removed. I need to rotate a log file from `detail` module. I did the couple tests - just tried to remove or rename `auth-detail.log` file and it seems that FreeRADIUS just create a log file if there is no file. However, there are old replies in mail list that saying I should use `radmin -e "hup detail"` to recreate `auth-detail.log` file after rotation. http://lists.freeradius.org/pipermail/freeradius-users/2017-July/088293.html http://lists.freeradius.org/pipermail/freeradius-users/2016-June/083943.html So my question is do I still need to send HUP signal to detail module or the changes in FreeRADIUS code were made so it not necessary anymore? -- Vladimir

accounts with @EXAMPLE.COM

Hi, my freeradius is working with account name that does not have "@" part. However, it is not working (MSCHAP2 is failing) with account with "@", such as, say myaccount(a)EXAMPLE.COM. I don't know what extra configuration is needed to make accounts with "@" working. Thanks! Jim

Send Accounting Request but not expect an response

Hello everybody I am currently trying to get the FreeRadius to send accounting messages (accounting request) but not expecting a response (accounting response). My previous attempts to adjust the policy accordingly have unfortunately failed. Currently I have adjusted the config so that the accounting message is written locally in a log and replied to a second accounting server in parallel via the detail reader. Since there is no Radius service running there, there will be no response. Unfortunately, FreeRadius then first declares this server as a zombie and then as dead. I would appreciate your feedback or help in this regard. change username/password takes no effect for 802.1x wifi clients

I'm running a freeradius to authorize user access on wifi network(EAP). everything works well, I input my username and password I can then login via 802.1x then surf. However if I change the username/password in mods-config/files/authorize, then restart radiusd, I can still surf the internet using the old username/password, no relogin required, until I logoff the wifi network, and relogin again, now I need supply the new username/password. How to force a re-login(via 802.1x) whenever I change username/password in freeradius? Is there a way to do it on freeradius side, or I just restart wifi network whenever I restart radiusd? Thanks,

timeout limits

Hi all, I did some searching but could not find an answer. in short, we have some users that are getting idle-timeout after under 1 min, but mostly between 20min-5 hours. I have tried moving our idle-timeout from 1500min to 15000min, and also tried 0 Still getting idle-timeouts Is 15000 possibly too long and not recognized by freeradius? does 0 really mean unlimited? My goal is to have no idle timeout or session timeout, or understand how to set these variables to simulate a best practice for no timeouts / monthly timeouts. The device is a windows computer, so it is likely generating a good amount of background traffic via dhcp, netbios, etc (is there maybe a minimal bytle quota that defines idle? or is idle really 0 bytes?) My apologies for not including any logs in this post. I would like to understand the limits of this field, and then gather logs. Thank you for your time!

Summary: How to configure (if it is possible) raspberry pi as freeradius server with dhcp (conditional IP range based on username) Scenario: In my shared farm we have 5 houses accessing internet through 5x LTE/4g antennas (each house has its own mobile plan and antenna, but they share local network infrastructure to access the antennas). Network: all devices are in the same LAN: 10.0.0.0 mask:255.255.240.0 Each house has its own access point House1AP - IP 10.0.2.1 - offering IPs:10.0.2.2-10.0.2.100 Gateway: 10.0.0.2 House2AP - IP 10.0.4.1 - offering IPs:10.0.4.2-10.0.4.100 Gateway: 10.0.0.4 House3AP - IP 10.0.6.1 - offering IPs:10.0.6.2-10.0.6.100 Gateway: 10.0.0.6 House4AP - IP 10.0.8.1 - offering IPs:10.0.8.2-10.0.8.100 Gateway: 10.0.0.8 House5AP - IP 10.0.10.1 - offering IPs:10.0.10.2-10.0.10.100 Gateway: 10.0.0.10 All access points are wired connected to a managed switch (IP: 10.0.1.2) This switch is connected through a fiber channel to another switch (10.0.1.1) that is wired connected to all LTE/4g routers/gateways. Raspberry pi (IP 10.0.1.4) is wired connect to the managed switch. Until now every house has its own unique ssid (wpa2 personal) and devices from one house cant access APs from other houses. I'm wondering if it is possible to change all APs to use wpa2 enterprise in a way that freeradius (based on the username -not the mac address ) set IP range and gateway that user belong. For example, if I belong to house1 (using gateway 10.0.0.2) when I go to visit house2 the House2AP should recognize me as house1 and send me the same gateway as house1. Thanks in advance Ulisses

rlm_perl - unresponsive child threads

I'm trying to debug some issues when using rlm_perl with a mysql backend. My module script uses the Perl DBI module in order to access the back-end, and I'm calling stored procedures for each of the radius sections (authorize, authenticate, accounting, etc.). Some of the queries will occasionally take too long (~20-30sec+), and this will apparently cause the freeradius child threads to hang & die (correct?). So, I'm trying to figure out how to gain more insight on this problem and hopefully prevent it and/or handle it better. So, my question(s): 1) what specifically causes the child thread to be detached/abandoned? is it a timeout issue within freeradius? - In a normal Perl script that accesses a DB using DBI, a slow DB query will simply cause the script to wait indefinitely until the query finishes (unless a connection timeout occurs), but it wouldn't necessarily die/crash completely. This leads me to assume that there's some kind of hard-coded timeout within freeradius that expires & causes it to give up on the child thread if it's still stuck waiting for a query to finish. Is this correct or incorrect? 2) if there *is* some kind of built-in timeout within freeradius for processing sections via rlm_perl, what is its value? can it be changed/extended via some configuration setting? (I looked around a bit in the source code, but didn't see anything) 3) Aside from trying to guarantee that a query will never run slowly (not realistic in my case), is there anything else that can be done to handle a slow response from rlm_perl, instead of just giving up on the child thread? Some kind of debug logging for cases where the child thread(s) hang or don't respond in a timely fashion?

Credentials differ when proxying

Hi, I have a server A proxying requests to server B (having LDAP enabled), and a client C requesting A. When I try to connect from A to B with radclient it works. Logs say : Login OK: [blabla2] (from client rad1-eee port 0) When I try to connect from C to A : Login incorrect (ldap: Bind credentials incorrect: Invalid credentials): [blabla2/?Q?#%?????)[~???dW???ŝ7?g-m?[˵] (from client rad1-eee port 0) I don't get why the credentials differ while proxying, which conf file should I check to understand this? Is this part coming from an ldap conf problem or from radiusd.conf problem? /?Q?#%?????)[~???dW???ŝ7?g-m? Thanks for your help. proxy issue

We are facing a strange issue. Using FreeRadius (3.0.15) to proxy some traffic and under certain circumstances the Access-Accept from the remote server appears to be ignored and we see the log message from this code in process.c. /* * No reply, BUT the current packet fails verification: * ignore it. Signature is invalid"); return 0; } If we use radclient to send the same packet direct to the remote server, the reply is received with no issues. We have tried upgrading to 3.0.21 but the same code seems to be invoked. The comment in the code is a little cryptic and I'm wondering if anyone can shed any light on what might be causing this?
