Hello,
Working getting FreeRadius talking to a WPA2 Enterprise network.
At this time, having gone through the instructions:
This command (local user in ..users) works great:
radtest -t mschap bob hello 127.0.0.1:18120 0 testing123
Comes right back with 'hello bob' as it should. So presumably mschap is
working at some level, and Windows connects to it without much fuss and
bother.
This command doesn't:
radtest -t mschap farhadtest Rambo5201 127.0.0.1:18120 0 testing123
It tries to auth against ldap, is *not* working from the CLI, and Windows
can't connect (obviously). Is mschap even working? It looks like it is,
but something else is misconfigured that's blocking external auth.
Radius -X output is below, with a successful and unsuccessful auth. here
are questions.
- I thought I had configured this to talk to our ldap host as I've done
with others, and yet it's ignoring the ldap module. I'm trying to ID where
I missed it in the configuration....
- It's not doing EAP on either authentication, and I don't know why. I've
configured it from scratch with the instructions, and it's close but no
cigar so far. Why is EAP a noop? It looks like it's configured in both
default and inner-tunnel....

Hi all,
I hope I may ask you regarding this topic.
I have a test setup of OPNsense firewall, FreeRADIUS 3.2.0 and using Linux,
Mac and especially Windows 10 (with the native Windows client) IKEv2 VPN
clients. OPNsense / Phase 1 is configured to use EAP-RADIUS (i.e.
FreeRADIUS) which is authenticating the VPN users against Active Directory.
The VPN clients are using IKEv2 and EAP-MSCHAPv2 with (AD-) username and
password. I use winbind for authentication
(https://wiki.freeradius.org/guide/Active-Directory-direct-via-winbind) and
do an additional check if the user is member of a special AD group (via
LDAP). These are the key points. And so far it's working fine.
But: I have the demand to use 2FA (especially OTP) to increase the security
of the VPN access. And that's my very question:
I searched around, read tons of articles etc. if that's possible and if
yes, what would be the best way to achive this goal. Among others I found this:

and would like to ask if someone has such an environment with Windows 10
clients and used it with e.g. privacyIDEA, OpenOTP or similar systems
(other than the mentioned Gemalto Safenet Authentication Services)? It
would be the best if the OTP system is running on-prem.
Could this work and is it worth the effort to setup such a system?

Hello,
I hope we can get some advice regarding a google workspace environment with a lot (30+) of domain names in it (units/companies in our network each using their own domain name).
We have a working test setup with a few domains, but I’m wondering if my configuration is right.
It’s a freeradius 3.2 environment based on the google sample files (mods-available/ldap_google + sites-available/google-ldap-auth) with the adviced cache settings etc.
We are deploying the TTLS+PAP profiles + CA cert via our mdm platform and it all works with the different google email addresses as username, second lookup is cached etc so thats all very nice.
For this setup we created a copy of the ldap_google module for each domain, because we need different base_dn’s. (that’s what I found when testing ldapsearch command’s, and I found a few guides setting up freeradius like this)
And then some logic in the default site + inner tunnel to use these specific ldap auth types based on Stripped-User-Domain
But now for each domain freeradius will create a connection pool with some binds to google (start pool=5).
So my question is: will we run into issues for creating 5 * 30 connections to google in freeradius?
Maybe we are doing it all wrong and there's a much smarter configuration possible?
I included the debug log below (with a domain1.nl <http://domain1.nl/>, domain2.com <http://domain2.com/> after some replacements).
Slightly unrelated question: we now deploy the CA certificate via our mdm, as per the documentation as far as I understood, but the user still needs to approve the server certificate (which makes sense)
Is it safe to deploy the server certificate also to make it easier for our users, or is this a very bad idea.

Thanks for the suggestions, Matthew, but not getting the desired result. Let me explain the problem I want to address and maybe there is a better option.
On a regular basis we have PPPoE customers whose authentication fails either due to incorrect password or suspension which ends up phoning the call centre because they have no internet connection.
What I want to do, testing with the "guest" username, is to authorize customers with incorrect password or suspension, provide them with limited internet access to be redirected to a website which will display relevant messages e.g., password incorrect on modem follow these steps to update. Additionally, with an active PPPoE session the helpdesk will also be able to access these customers' modems to update the password.
To achieve this, I need to write a value to a database field (that is what I am trying to do with post-auth) during authentication to identify these customers accordingly e.g., customers with incorrect password. When I receive the accounting start, I read this value from the database which I add as an attribute to the accounting start message before proxying it to our PCRF. On the PCRF I will then add rules based on the value of this attribute. For example, if a customer has incorrect password on modem, route the customer to a website which displays a message that modem has incorrect password configured on modem and will have limited internet access until fixed.

I am trying to use the originate-coa server to update all sessions of a user by sending a coa request to the radius from an external source
It works as it is documented in the originate-coa server, but there is one thing I could not figure out:
As I understand it, I need a home_server definition of every nas, which could receive a coa request. If I do not have such a definition I get the message "Unknown destination 192.168.0.2:3799 for CoA request."
I have all clients, which would be the target of such a coa request in a SQL database (one entry for each IP and a sql module with read_clients = yes).
Is it possible to use the sql database or the clients known to freeradius somehow as source for the home_server definition?
Currently, the only possible solution that comes to my mind: Generating the home_server definitions in an external script and $INCLUDE the generated file.

Hi,
So, I've been experimenting with OpenRoaming, and I discovered that there is an attribute being passed around that is not in the FreeRADIUS (or Radiator) dictionaries. It's a VSA: vendor 40808, attribute 6. Now I've been able to capture this on a Radiator proxy:

Given that in this instance the RCOI (the consortium value) was 5A-03-BA-00-00, it correlates (the letter Z is 5A in hex in ASCII, and character 186 is BA in ASCII). What format would you describe this attribute to be in? Octets/String?
Oh, and the attribute as described elsewhere has the name " HS20-Roaming-Consortium" to match the convention in dictionary.wifialliance (where it actually belongs).
I'm happy to put in the pull request for it once I know what the format is meant to be.

I am not sure what I am trying dp=o is possible but lets try.
I have the following statement under authenticate to accept "guest" users
even if the password is correct.

Under post-auth I write failed requests to postauth_table. In the case of
a "guest" user's password being incorrect, it will accept the
authentication and not write the record to the postauth_table.
What I require is that in the case of the password being incorrect for a
"guest" user, I need to accept the request but write a record to the
postauth_table (reply field) as access-reject. This is that we have a
record of access-rejects for "guest" users but still allow them to connect
with limited connectivity.
I thought of using a variable, like below, to write the value to the reply
field in the postauth_table but it seems one can't do much under Auth-Type
PAP.

Hello -
Working on a relatively generic new install of Freeradius 3.2.2 on an Alma
9.1 system (think CentOS).
The network is Ubiquiti Unifi UDM running up-to-date OS
The UDM is configured for WPA3-Enterprise, so (if I've read the
documentation right) Freeradius needs to perform EAP-TLS.
I’ve enabled EAP-TLS. The certs should all be right.
iPhones connect fine.

Windows fails entirely, in every situation; in the radius -X output below,
it sends a NAK and stops negotiating.
The README in ../certs notes that Windows fails silently and so people
blame freeradius, and I *think* that’s what’s happening here. I think that
Freeradius is configured properly….but it’s entirely possible I screwed up.
So, here’s the output from starting up plus one attempt from a Windows 11
system.

Nota bene: We also have a WPA2-Enterprise production network (not described
here) and Windows won't auth to that, either. It works great for
everything else.

I setup a Freeradius server to do EAP-TLS with Android devices (freeradius 3.2.x)
I use the default config for EAP-TLS with the default Makefile for certs and keys
I use OpenSSL version 3.0.2 (and I have tried with openssl 1.1.1t)
I have tested with two Android version, 10 and 13.
I get an error using client key and cert on Android (and only on it)
With the same key and cert it works on an embedded Linux and on Windows.
With OpenSSL version 3.0.2, I must use the "-legacy" option on openssl pkcs12 command line to be able to import natively a p12 file. (not in openssl 1.1.1t)
Indeed in openssl 3.0.x version they removed old algorithm as stated here :

Then, even by using "-legacy" on OpenSSL 3.0.2 or using OpenSSL 1.1.1 for creating p12 container I can't use the imported keys in my Android phone.
When I try to connect to my freeradius network I get on adb logcat (phone side) :
wpa_supplicant: TLS - SSL error: error:0900006e:PEM routines:OPENSSL_internal:NO_START_LINE
So, as using default keys and cert with the two openssl LTS version does not work with my freeradius 3.2.0 setup, what is your configuration for your Android devices ?
