Hi There,
I've just setup pam_radius_auth and it is working, however there seems to be a weird 20 second delay for no apparent reason between getting the password from the prompt and sending the authentication request to the RADIUS server.
The version of pam_radius_auth is 1.4.0 obtained from the CentOS 7 EPEL repository
I have entries for the RADIUS server in /etc/hosts but have tried both a hostname and an IP address in /etc/pam_radius.conf and the effect is the same.
My sshd pam entries are set as follows
-- begin snippet --
auth [success=ignore default=1] pam_succeed_if.so debug user ingroup radius
auth required pam_radius_auth.so debug conf=/etc/pam_radius.conf
auth required pam_sepermit.so
auth substack password-auth
auth include postlogin
-- end --
The logs are as follows
-- begin logs --
Apr 28 16:09:40 bastion sshd[9197]: pam_radius_auth: Got user name stevetest
Apr 28 16:09:40 bastion sshd[9197]: pam_radius_auth: ignore last_pass, force_prompt set
Apr 28 16:10:00 bastion sshd[9197]: pam_radius_auth: Sending RADIUS request code 1
Apr 28 16:10:00 bastion sshd[9197]: pam_radius_auth: DEBUG: getservbyname(radius, udp) returned 0x7f05695fa1c0.
Apr 28 16:10:00 bastion sshd[9197]: pam_radius_auth: Got RADIUS response code 2
Apr 28 16:10:00 bastion sshd[9197]: pam_radius_auth: authentication succeeded
-- end logs --
and the server entry is (less the lines starting with a #)
# cat /etc/pam_radius.conf | egrep -v ^#
auth1 somesecret 3
172.28.208.169:1812 somesecret 3
(If I comment auth1 out the effect is identical - a 20 second delay)
The 20 seconds sounds like a timeout of some sort but I'm at a bit of a loss what this would be. Just wondering if anyone else has come across this?
OS: CentOS 7.3.1611, minimal installation, patched to whatever the latest patch cluster was as of a week ago.
Any ideas would be appreciated,
Cheers,
--
Steve.

Hi,
for running external script I have to quote the content of the User-Name
(via the Exec module).
So in case User-Name is John Doe (received from NPS) I want to have it
like "John Doe".
Tried:
User-Name := "%{User-Name}" # this is not working.
Is there a way to do this?
Thank you!

Hello,
I have implemented an embedded client that sends authentication
requests either with User-Password (Attr Type 2) or CHAP-Password
(Attr Type 3). This works perfectly, the requests are accepted or
rejected from FreeRadius.
1. But how is User-Password (Attr Type 2) declared? Is this PAP? It
don't seems so, since in all descriptions PAP means plain text, and
the User-Password is MD5'ed with random authenticator and shared
secret. How to label this authentication for the client user?
2. When I use CHAP-Password (Attr Type 3) in the request it works
without problems. But shouldn't this attribute part of a Challenge
Response? How can I activate that?
Since I wrote my own client, I want a clean implementation and make no
mistakes.
Best Regards,
Peter

We're having a FreeRADIUS meeting in Ottawa, Canada, May 29 - June 2.
So far, we have me, Arran, Alex Clouter, Matthew Newton, and a few other people involved.
The agenda is largely "get together and talk about FreeRADIUS", with an emphasis on v4.
Anyone local (or non-local) is welcome to join.

Hello folks,
I have set up and configured PPPoE subscriber management on my Juniper MX80 router. I’m using FreeRadius version 2.1.12. I know it’s old and we’re planning on upgrading it soon.
A PPPoE client successfully authenticates using PAP and sends out a Framed-IP-Address (10.120.120.10) in the Access-Accept message back to the router:

The MX80 feels like the FreeRadius server is dead / unreachable, while the connectivity is just fine. Without using PAP and with using an address pool on the router itself, all works fine.
But I want to specify the IP address my users get.
Is there a different RADIUS VSA I need to use in this regard?

Hi there,
I’m searching where to define the trusted root ca for validation of the SSL certificate on ldaps connections (FR 3.0.12 with CentOS 7).
I added the root ca to the system and tested ldaps connection with 'openssl s_client -connect my_ldap_server_IP:636 -CApath /etc/pki/tls/certs‘ and it returns 'Verify return code: 19 (self signed certificate in certificate chain)‘.
Then I tested the trusted root ca’s at the system to be sure the correct ca’s are there with ...
awk -v cmd='openssl x509 -noout -subject' \
'/BEGIN/{close(cmd)};{print | cmd}' \
< /etc/pki/tls/certs/ca-bundle.crt
… and the CA is listed. Am I doing something wrong or is it a OpenSSL issue? Do I have to (or is it possible to) define the trusted root ca within Freeradius?
I also didn’t quite understand what the tls section in mods-enabled/ldap is for. As far as I know ldap clients don’t need a client certificate except the LDAP configuration requires it. And in my case it isn’t. When I let ‚ca_file‘ point to my root ca, i get the following:
TLS: could not add the certificate '/usr/local/etc/raddb/certs/cacert.crt' - error -8018:Unknown PKCS #11 error..
TLS: /usr/local/etc/raddb/certs/cacert.crt is not a valid CA certificate file - error -8018:Unknown PKCS #11 error..
TLS: could not perform TLS system initialization.
TLS: error: could not initialize moznss security context - error -8018:Unknown PKCS #11 error.
TLS: can't create ssl handle.
I have to admit I’m not practiced with PKI.
Thanks so much for help!

Hello,
Working on a new server and trying to get wireless authentication working with LDAP. Radtest works from the server using PAP, so the LDAP lookup is working. When the authethentication request comes from the wireless client, it does not look like the password is being checked against LDAP. Authentication gets rejected here. Struggling to find the problem.

Hello!
I have som troubles getting my configuration to work when I run it as a
service.
When I run it in manually it is working fine. I've tried to add the radiusd
to root and change file permissions back and forth on my perl-scripts.
Nothing changes.
Here is the config for the service:
[Unit]
Description=FreeRADIUS high performance RADIUS server.
After=syslog.target network.target
[Service]
Type=forking
PIDFile=/var/run/radiusd/radiusd.pid
ExecStartPre=-/bin/chown -R radiusd.radiusd /var/run/radiusd
ExecStartPre=/usr/sbin/radiusd -C
ExecStart=/usr/sbin/radiusd -d /etc/raddb -t -X
ExecReload=/usr/sbin/radiusd -C
ExecReload=/bin/kill -HUP $MAINPID
[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target
Here is the output I get from the service with journalctl:

......

my $port = '12345';

my $mesg = $ldap->bind($binduser , password => $password );
my $result = $ldap->search(

filter => "(uid=$RAD_REQUEST{'User-Name'})");
die $result->error if $result->code;
foreach my $entry ($result->entries)

And at last, here is the output from when I run it manually:

Hello!
I use FreeBSD 10.3-RELEASE-p18, my openssl:
> openssl version
> OpenSSL 1.0.1s-freebsd 1 Mar 2016
>
> /usr/local/bin/openssl version
> OpenSSL 1.0.2k 26 Jan 2017

> --with-openssl-include-dir=/usr/local/include
I was using 3.0.10 and all was ok. Some day OS was upgraded and
rebooted, then starts problems: process can terminate at randomly point.
Fresh installation from pkg or sources of 3.0.13 doesn't help. There was
nothing strange in -X before the falls.
What diagnostic i can gather? When i start it with "-X", it faults in
random places after different clients. It looks like:
> (33) # Executing group from file
> /usr/local/etc/raddb/sites-enabled/default
> (33) authenticate {
> (33) eap: Expiring EAP session with state 0x9ebf2e0b9cbb3744

Sometimes i see Ошибка адресации на шине//Bus error
Thank you.

Hi,
I use freeradius-3.0.12 on centos 7.3 with an openldap 2.4 and a samba
attribute EAP / PEAP authentication MSCHAPV2.
I want to authentificate and authorize users according to their
attribute on the LDAP.
I created an attribute LDAP-Desc mapped with the field
eduPersonPrimaryAffilation on my LDAP.
I want to put user on specific VLAN if they are students, employee .... or
outer people.
For that I use in the inner-tunnel the capabilities to return AVP like
Tunnel-Private-Group-Id with the good value .
It's work very well, for internal and also for external people. I tested
also the realm
value in the default server and I put also the good Tunnel-Private-Group-Id
depending
the value of realm. It's work with device like smartphone, pc ... and
also with the command.
eapol_test -c afile -p1812 -smysecret -r1
Everything seems good but not when I use radtest command
I can't authentificate internal or external people with the test command
radtest
[root@freeradius-3-a test]# radtest 'teststudent' 'a1z2e3r4*' localhost
1812 mysecret
Sent Access-Request Id 154 from 0.0.0.0:54585 to 127.0.0.1:1812 length 81

(0) -: Expected Access-Accept got Access-Reject
nor
radtest -t mschap 'teststudent' 'a1z2e3r4*' 127.0.0.1:18120 1 mysecret
I got
ot@freeradius-3-a test]# radtest -t mschap 'teststudent' 'secret'
127.0.0.1:18120 1 mysecret
Sent Access-Request Id 129 from 0.0.0.0:34088 to 127.0.0.1:18120 length 137

Received Access-Reject Id 129 from 127.0.0.1:18120 to 0.0.0.0:0 length 20
(0) -: Expected Access-Accept got Access-Reject
Perhaps the problem comes from /etc/raddb/mods-enabled/mschap files
and I tried differents values with no good results.
mschap {
with_ntdomain_hack = no
#authtype = MS-CHAP
allow_retry = yes
use_mppe=yes
require_encryption = yes
require_strong = yes
.....
I am not sure about the good values needing for this section.
I would like to have an advice before using this configuration in
production environment.
here a debug with a Successful results
Thanks in advance for you help
PS:
sorry for my english I hope it's comprehensible.
