Authenticating groups via LDAP

I really didn't want to post here, but I just can't make any headway with my radius implementation. I am very new at this and still quite confused on how the various config files function and interact with each other. So, I'm not surprised that my implementation is only sort of working. I have installed freeradius 2.1.8 on Ubuntu Server 8.04 by making deb packages from the source and installing the deb packages. Radius is relying on an LDAP server for authentication of wireless clients. Only clients with valid usernames and passwords in LDAP will get authenticated. What I would really like to do (other than actually be able to understand the concepts behind the config files) is require clients to be in a particular LDAP group (e.g., wireless-users) in order to successfully authenticate. I don't understand how to make that happen. I've tried creating group filters like this in "modules/ldap": groupname_attribute = cn groupmembership_filter = "(&(objectClass=posixGroup)(memberUid=%{Stripped-User-Name:-%{User-Name}}))" groupmembership_attribute = memberUid and this in "users": DEFAULT LDAP-GROUP == vpn-users Service-Type = Administrative-User But the output seems to indicate that it is not even considering my radiusd.conf config when it comes to the filter. (see output below). I would so welcome assistance with this. In addition, is there any resource that is particularly good at explaining how radius and its config files really works? Thanks. RADDB 2.1.7 and /etc/shadow

Greetings, I installed a fresh copy of FreeRadius v 2.1.7 on CentOS 5. Ran radtest locally as well as remotely and it works great. Now I want to point the server to my /etc/shadow file which lives on the same machine. I have not made any changes to the default config except to change the group ownership of my shadow file to radiusd so the radius daemon can access it. About how to get data from MySQL db in other rlm modules

hi, all! Now I have a question about getting data from mysql database in rlm_wimax. I want to add some new attribute (such as the level of a single client) in the clients table of mysql. Then when a client request arrives to the freeradius server, the rlm_wimax can query the mysql to return the client's "new" attribute (newly defined by me, mentioned above) in the table back to the client. So if I can write the code in rlm_wimax.c by invoking the functions defined in rlm_sql/rlm_mysql, or I need to write my own drive code to access the mysql database? I am a new user of freeradius. radiusGroupName and utf-8

Hello list, I use freeradius 2.1.8 and OpenLDAP 2.4.17. In LDAP I have the radius.schema and want to use the attribute radiusGroupName to authorize access with Huntgroups and LDAP-Groups in users file. My LDAP-Groups come from a Database and they are all in utf-8 and have characters like ä, ü etc. But in radiusGroupName is allowed only IA5. I can change the schema and allow utf-8 as changing Syntax from *IA5String* (OID=1.3.6.1.4.1.1466.115.121.1.26) to *DirectoryString* (OID=1.3.6.1.4.1.1466.115.121.1.15). Would that be a Problem for freeradius, if it get utf-8 characters for the LDAP-Groups? I appreciate any help, Cheers Irina

ISG DHCP relay

I am sorry for contacting list for my problem, but i have searched for more than 15 days trying to find the solution with no success: 1. i have a cisco ISG with DHCP relay that points to freeradius 2. freeradius will send access accept or access reject based on mac address, nas ip etc. this scenario works ok for CPE devices, but not for CM devices because CM devices need TFTP server name and TFTP file name. I am unable to find right reply message format. So, my problem is BOOTP part. Is there any way to send those data to ISG so that ISG can combine those data and send it to CM device? Again, i am sorry for asking this question here but it is partially tied to freeradius functionality. I hope there is someone on this list that has more experience with ISG and freeradius to point me to right direction. Thank you...

I'm running freeradius 2.1.8 with a MySQL backend. I'm want to do MAC based authentication for network access control on my switch. Is it possible to specify a wildcard for the username (mac address)? That is, if I have a bunch of computers with the same OUI on the NIC's, how do I configure freeradius to just match on the OUI without adding each MAC address as a user? certs files missing?

Hi there, I am trying to use certificates with freeradius. I am following steps given here http://deployingradius.com/ The step #2 (Get EAP<http://deployingradius.com/documents/configuration/eap.html> working using "snake oil" certificates) says that i have to execute the following commands: $ cd /etc/raddb/certs $ make but in my freeradius installation the "certs" folder does not have any make file, so if i try to run above commands i get errors. In fact my installation does not have several files that the tutorial suppose that should exist, they are: a) make fille b) ca.cnf c) sefver.cnf d) xpextensions Any idea why these files are missing? Hello I have got application that allow only to authenticate using PAP method. My Goal would bo to use Active Directory as a abckend User Database, but I found that: "Once the PAP authentication test has been successful, the next step for sites using Active Directory is to configure the system to perform user authentication against Active Directory. The clear-text passwords are unavailable through Active Directory, so we have to use Samba" Is it true ? The same page describing to use ntlm_auth instead, But I cannot found how to pass attributes from LDAP Database using ntlm_auth to Radius Client.
