FR with AD authentication not working

Using freeradius v1.1.1 on a RHEL 4 box trying to authenticate users against Windows 2003 Active directory. I was able to bind linux box to Windows domain successfully and able to read the active directory users and groups using wbinfo - u R1\Administrator R1\Guest and wbinfo -g. Using ntlm_auth tool am able to successfully authenticate the users too. -bash-3.00# ntlm_auth --request-nt-key --username=kartthikr password: NT_STATUS_OK: Success (0x0) But while using radtest tool with the same logon credentials as above it rejects the user and here is the log message. openldap+freeradius+Cisco

Hi, I'm trying to authenticate and authorize Cisco routers administrators But not the autorization (privilege level). so not when i add "aaa authorization exec default group radiusvrf if-authenticated" to the cisco router to be able to manage privileges with radius. to make it work, i think i need to configure Service-Type and cisco-avpair attributes for each user to get the autorization from the cisco router. I want to configure this attributs in freeradius, not in openldap. So, is it possible to add this attributes to a specific user in the raddb/users file after he has been authenticated by ldap ? or i must do it differently ? in raddb/radiusd.conf: authorize { preprocess files ldap } authenticate { Auth-Type PAP { pap } Auth-Type LDAP { ldap } } I tried with a user and a DEFAULT user: raddb/users: Robert Service-Type = NAS-Prompt-User cisco-avpair = "shell:priv-lvl=1" DEFAULT Service-Type = NAS-Prompt-User cisco-avpair = "shell:priv-lvl=1" but this attributs seem not to be send to the routeur. when ldap is authorize in radiusd.conf, the users file is not check anymore ? Bug on Accouting-Requests proxying

FreeRADIUS 1.1.3 bug - Accounting requests reemission by FreeRADIUS In file "main\request_list.c", function "refresh_request". In the case of an accounting request (request->proxy->code == PW_ACCOUNTING_REQUEST), FreeRADIUS adds to the proxied packet the attribute "Acct-Delay-Time" (or updates it, if it was present in previous emission) with value set to the time difference between current time and time of initial proxied request. According to RFC 2866, chapter 4.1 : "The Identifier field MUST be changed whenever the content of the Attributes field changes, and whenever a valid reply has been received for a previous request. For retransmissions where the contents are identical, the Identifier MUST remain unchanged. Note that if Acct-Delay-Time is included in the attributes of an Accounting-Request then the Acct-Delay-Time value will be updated when the packet is retransmitted, changing the content of the Attributes field and requiring a new Identifier and Request Authenticator." FreeRADIUS updates the content of the packet when reemitting the accounting request, but does not change the Identifier. Thus, those packets sent after the first one are *not* true reemissions. This is a problem to us. For instance, we have the following setup : A client (A) sending an accounting request to FreeRADIUS (B), which retransmits the request to a proxy FreeRADIUS server (C). FreeRADIUS C is slow to respond, so FreeRADIUS B reemits the request, with different packet attributes (Acct-Delay-Time added), but keeps the same identifier. FreeRADIUS C receives the second request, but discards it since it has the same identifier as the request currently being processed. FreeRADIUS C then decides to finally respond (to the first request). FreeRADIUS B receives this response, and verifies if the request (the reemission) and response match. They do not, thus FreeRADIUS B drops the response and logs an error. FreeRADIUS should either : - NOT add Acct-Delay-Time attribute in accounting reemissions, thus preserving the content of the attributes in the packet. - or, add an Acct-Delay-Time, but change the identifier and handle the proxied packet as a new request. The second solution seems overly complicated, because FreeRADIUS would have to handle the second proxied request as a completely new request, but would also have keep the first one, as the proxy server can respond to any of the reemissions. The first solution is very simple to correct: it simply involves removing the block "if (request->proxy->code == PW_ACCOUNTING_REQUEST) {" in function "refresh_request" of file "main\request_list.c". I don't know if Acct-Delay-Time attribute is really useful to someone, I've never seen it used in any implementation of a RADIUS server. Anyhow, it seems way too much hassle to correctly handle this attribute in accounting reemissions. If tehre is any any objection, we will develop a patch to remove Acct-Delay-Time and provide it soon. Static IP Address allocation database - Active Directory?

Has anyone experimented with using Active Directory as a database for Static IP Addressing? I have two Radius groups in AD, Radius and Radius_StaticIP. If you are a member of the radius group, you are given a address by the NAS (I return 255.255.255.254 to the NAS). If you are a member of the Radius_StaticIP group I want to allocate an address out from my end, I am looking at perl at the moment but has anyone tried using a custom attribute in ActiveDirectory or similar to manage the addressing? Each account could have it's address defined in it's AD entry, but can FreeRadius look up these attributes and use them as replies? Has anyone gotten static ips to work from the client end? I'm not sure what I need to return to allow the client in a PPP dial-in session to set their own IP address in TCP/IP properties. Any help appreciated.

Freeradius on OS X with OD, password attribute is not checked

Hi all, I'm setting up a wireless network where users use login details provided by OpenDirectory + certificate. The goal is that user of the WiFi network must provide certificate and username with password. If the user is disabled in OD (via WGM - access account thick box), user must not access the network. My setup: OSX 10.4.8 Server, OpenDirectory, freeRADIUS, ZyWall 35 with WiFi AP using WPA Ent. Clients: 99.9% Mac OSX 10.4.8 I got all setup, freeRADIUS 1.1.3 running, certificates, but I can't get the freeRADIUS to check the user password from OD. Using radtest, I have no problems: ------- Sending Access-Request of id 123 to 127.0.0.1 port 1812 User-Name = "12345" User-Password = "12345" NAS-IP-Address = 255.255.255.255 NAS-Port = 2 rad_recv: Access-Accept packet from host 127.0.0.1:1812, id=123, length=20 ------- However, when a client from WiFi logs in, username and certificate are the only criteria which are checked to grant access. If you can help, please read the debug dump below. It seems that RADIUS has managed to decrypt the password and adds it to checklist: rlm_ldap: Added password ******** in check items ... but then the access is granted anyway ... doesn't matter what you write in the password :-( To achieve my goals, am I using the correct method (EAP-TLS)? When using unecrypted connection, I can clearly see the password attribute, but that defeats the whole purpose of WPA ... I hope you guys don't mind that I dumped bits of my log & conf into this forum, I'm getting very frustrated ... I have already added userPassword as User-Password ... race condition?

I am running freeradius 1.0.5 version. I know this is old. ldap is used in authorization and pap is usually used in authentication. We made a client tool which can send 1000 packets per second (from data file) to freeradius. What we noticed that in multi-thread, there was a race condition which makes some ldapsearch failures. We are positive in that there is no problem in our ldap because we already tested our ldaps with a similar tool and verified that our ldap can support much more load. Do you have any idea what part of things that I need to check or was there any update in ldap with this kind of issue? Kevin

Freeradius consuming a lot of memory > 1.6G

Hi, We've built a radius-proxy using freeradius and rlm_perl (with ithreads). Currently we have the following settings: thread pool { start_servers = 20 max_servers = 100 min_spare_servers = 20 max_spare_servers = 50 max_requests_per_server = 500 } perl { module = /usr/lib/perl5/rlmPerl.pm func_authenticate = authenticate func_authorize = authorize func_preacct = preacct func_accounting = accounting func_checksimul = checksimul func_pre_proxy = pre_proxy func_post_proxy = post_proxy func_post_auth = post_auth func_xlat = xlat func_detach = detach max_clones = 100 start_clones = 20 min_spare_clones = 20 max_spare_clones = 100 cleanup_delay = 5 max_request_per_clone = 100 } The whole setup works fine (there are two machines, load-balanced). Every single request is piped to the rlm_perl. The number of threads (ps -eLf) oscillates around 45-50 on both machines. There are no dealys, or any problems, except for the huge memory consumption. Authentication request are simply proxied (with minimal changes to the packets - filtering out some attributes and setting the others, no db access), accounting is send to a session database (postgresql) on a separate machine (no load problems there). Should freeradius use that amount of memory? The amount of memory is directly linked to the number of threads - with 25 threads (in the middle of the night) the memory consumption drops to about 900M. perl useses the following modules: use DBI; use Digest::JHash qw(jhash); use IPC::Shareable (':lock'); use Storable; (all variables shared between perl threads are stored in shared memory using perl IPC). So the question is should freeradius use that amount of memory and how can I decrease that? regards pshemko

authenticating question

Hi all, This is probably a bit newbie-ish, but I thought I'd try anyway. We are trying to authenticate users based on the username/password given AND the vlan they are authenticating from. Is this possible? A quick overview of our scenario is as follows: - Wireless service offering an SSID/VLAN for students and SSID/VLAN for staff. - Users connect to an SSID and are in the vlan associated for it. They are redirected to a portal where they must authenticate using radius - to -ldap authentication. We have this working. However, the question came up..what if a student connects to the Staff SSID/VLAN. His username/password would still authenticate correctly and he'd be given access at this point. But if we could get Radius to check and LDAP field which say which vlan he has access to, and allow or deny access to the network if the user is not currently in that vlan, then I guess that would be the ideal solution. Hi Karthik, I used to have the same problem in 2 different cases: - When Freeradius was installed on Redhat 9, it used to hang every 3 or 4 days as well but you're on Redhat Ent3 so you should be fine - When the connection to the MySQL server was dropping Are you sure your connection to AD is reliable? David ----- Am running freeradius ver 1.1.1. My connection to AD is reliable, but today i remembered before this issue araised recently i rebooted the domain controller. Not sure if this is causing the issue.
