Subject: Help ldap integration into Active directory
I’m new to free radius so forgive the ignorance as I try and articulate the set up im trying to achieve here.
Currently I have a free radius server running off a centos server:
· Running Freeradius FreeRADIUS Version 3.0.13
· Centos version CentOS Linux release 7.6.1810 (Core)
The overall design idea at the moment is clients will connect via l2tp vpn with a preshared key against a vyos then get challenged for AD credentials which are then passed to the Freeradius server.
-The goal is then to use ldap to query active directory – locked down to a specific security group
- Then use samba / ntlm_auth to handle the actual username/ password authentication.
- Most of this has been up until I started trying to refine the ldap search and move the authentication part away from ldap which when I ran radiusd –X I could see in the output that ldap was still being used past the query stage.
- Since modifying those folders im for ever chasing loops in the /etc/raddb/mods-enabled/ldap file for things 'rlm_group': /usr/lib64/freeradius/rlm_group.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory’
- Unfortunately I don’t have a complete grasp oh how all these protocols interact / leverage off each other to do specific jobs and im at the point now that if I continue I will bugger up the config and have to start again.
Any assistance with this would be fantastic.
- Can provide configs if need be.
Summary:
- L2tp vpn auth works fine
- Radius / samba / ntlm_auth originally worked well – issue was any users in AD would authenticate rather then the specific group im targeting
- Tried modifying the Ldap file in /etc/raddb/mods-enabled/ldap and feel like im digging my own grave by this point as error after error appears

Josh McMillan

Hi Team,
I have a server running freeradius 3.016 as proxy and it is working
perfectly. I would like to migrate to freeradius version 4.x . I have
installed free radius 4.x version from the source at (
https://github.com/pwdng/freeradius-server ) . It runs fine without mysql
enabled. I tried to change the configuration to use mysql but I am getting
the error message *"Failed to link to module "rlm_sql_mysql":
/usr/local/lib/rlm_sql_mysql.so: cannot open shared object file: No such
file or directory"*
>From the error message I can see that freeradius mysql driver needs to be
installed. But I couldn't find the source/or executable for mysql driver
for freeradius version 4.x.
It would be great if I could get some help regarding this.

Hi All,
We are using freeRadius to authenticate 16 supplicants. The early ones get authorized but the last 3 or 4 ones get rejected corresponding the following logs in freeRadius:
Found Auth-Type = EAP
# Executing group from file /etc/freeradius/sites-enabled/default
+group authenticate {
rlm_eap: No EAP session matching the State variable.
[eap] Either EAP-request timed out OR EAP-response to an unknown EAP-request
[eap] Failed in handler
++[eap] = invalid
+} # group authenticate = invalid
Failed to authenticate the user.
Login incorrect: [user] (from client 0.0.0.0/0 port 0)
Using Post-Auth-Type Reject
# Executing group from file /etc/freeradius/sites-enabled/default
+group REJECT {
rlm_eap: No EAP session matching the State variable.
[eap] Either EAP-request timed out OR EAP-response to an unknown EAP-request
[eap] Failed to get handler, probably already removed, not inserting EAP-Failure
++[eap] = noop
[attr_filter.access_reject] expand: %{User-Name} -> user
attr_filter: Matched entry DEFAULT at line 11
++[attr_filter.access_reject] = updated
+} # group REJECT = updated
Delaying reject of request 26 for 1 seconds
Can any one help me to tackle this problem?
Thanks,
Niloofar

Apologizing for starting a new thread I had messages turned off for a while. But this continues from the previous emails I sent. I have successfully gotten FreeRADIUS to work with LDAP and am working on the kerberos portion. Will these need to be configured together? When I go to configure the users would I change the Auth-Type := to krb5 instead of LDAP?
Thanks!
Andrew M.

Hello my name is juliana I am developer from Brazil and I work with a hotspot system connecting in a freeradius database. We are facing problems with pfsense and freeradius. When we configure on pfsense to insert the users connection on radacct table there are many insertions from the same user
[cid:d92ed80a-860f-4dbc-85ed-a349a0888781]
minute by minute the radius is connecting and disconnecting this user.
We would like to know how to solve this problem

Hello Guys,
Radius is generating NULL file under / and it keep growing , seems like accounting logs.
Can somebody help me know how can I disable it as it is filling up root space over server.
# ls -l /NULL
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 672768 Jul 12 08:26 /NULL
We are using freeradius version “3.0.11-2”
Any help or suggestion will be highly appreciated.
Thanks & Regards,

Packages for Debian 10 (Buster) are now on the NetworkRADIUS site:
deb http://packages.networkradius.com/releases/debian-buster buster main
The site index page will be updated to reflect this in due course.

Hello there !! Help Me!
I'm sorry, my English is not good.
I am migrating a FreeRadius server, but I'm having trouble connecting
with EAP-TTLS + MS-CHAPv2.
The migration source is FreeRadius v2, but this time it is a migration
to FreeRadius v3.
Although the configuration is a straight migration, some settings have
been added as dynamic VLAN is required.
At first we recommended to build with EAP-TTLS + PAP, but customers
are required to connect with EAP-TTLS + MS-CHAPv2
When EAP-TTLS + PAP, although authentication was successful, it will
be an error if it is made EAP-TTLS + MS-CHAPv2 connection.
Specifically, I get into trouble with the following error at the point
of authenticate section.
------
(6) ldap_regularusers: WARNING: You have set "Auth-Type := LDAP" somewhere
(6) ldap_regularusers: WARNING: *********************************************
(6) ldap_regularusers: WARNING: * THAT CONFIGURATION IS WRONG. DELETE IT.
(6) ldap_regularusers: WARNING: * YOU ARE PREVENTING THE SERVER FROM WORKING
(6) ldap_regularusers: WARNING: *********************************************
(6) ldap_regularusers: ERROR: Attribute "User-Password" is required
for authentication
------
As a question and support
1. Can I authenticate using EAP-TTLS + MS-CHAPv2?
2. What advice, suggestions, or areas for improvement in solving the problem?
I would like wisdom and support.

Hello there,
Been playing around with rlm_rest, and it works like a charm over
HTTPS... until you activate HTTP/2 on your web server. Because then I
get this in the logs:
(1) rest: Processing response header
(1) rest: ERROR: Malformed HTTP header: Status line too short
(1) rest: ERROR: Received 13 bytes of response data: HTTP/2 404
(1) rest: ERROR: Request failed: 23 - Failed writing received data
to disk/application
(1) rest: ERROR: Server returned no data
rlm_rest (rest): Released connection (0)
Note that performing the HTTP call with cURL works with both HTTP/1.1
and HTTP/2 (correct answer given when trying to authenticate a user) so
the web server behavior in itself is not the cause.
It seems that rlm_rest does not handle HTTP/2 very well, expecting
something that does not exist under this protocol, or at least before
the parties agreed to use it.
I'm no HTTP/2 expert, but cURL in verbose mode shows:
* Using HTTP2, server supports multi-use
* Connection state changed (HTTP/2 confirmed)
* Copying HTTP/2 data in stream buffer to connection buffer after
upgrade: len=0
... which seem to indicate that some connection upgrade is being
performed (like for a websocket?), and one might think that rlm_rest
does not like it very much.
Are these assumptions correct?
Thanks!
Hoggins!

Good morning, everyone! I'm having a challenge understanding why we're
seeing the error:
authenticate {

(660) Fri Jul 26 09:20:17 2019: Debug: [mschap] = reject
(660) Fri Jul 26 09:20:17 2019: Debug: } # authenticate = reject
We've just started providing radius services (3.0.18 on CentOS 7) to a
new client, and all 14 of their properties have exhibited this behavior,
to the tune of nearly 300,000 so far this month, with only about 80,000
successful auths.
In the authenticate debug above, it states that there is no
Cleartext-Password, but I personally checked for this specific user, and
the attribute is set in radcheck (I've checked a random sample of some
others, as well, with the same result). Still, however, we see that
error, and for the life of me, although I believe I know *what* the
error is, I'm unable to determine why. We've done packet captures to
ensure that the site's gateway (Nomadix) is sent the correct credential
data (it is), but somehow, on arrival at the FR server, the password
appears to be missing.
If someone can point me in the right direction (I'm thinking the NAS is
the root of this), I would be most appreciative, as I don't want to lose
any more hair! I've included the gzip'd output from raddebug, as this is
a production server.
I've had to include it as an attachment, because in raw form, it
exceeded the message size limit for the list (and I apologize to the
list maintainers for that error).
Many thanks!
