On two occasions in the last 2 weeks, our RADIUS server suddenly started to reject ALL users. Even though we have set up a failover system. Unfotunately, the fail-over system did not kick in because the RADIUS service was still running, only that it was rejecting all users for some strange reasons.
Does anyone know of any monitoring script/tool that can be used to test that the RADIUS server is authenticating properly and which can send an alert by email or text in the event that the server rejects authentication of a valid user credentials a number of times.
Best Regards
Clement Ogedengbe

I cant test this use bec. It is reseller. But I create another user and can test it.

As you see it works.
But from GGSN not work.
I really wish to throw taht home-serve rto garbage. But more that 300 reseller connect via this home-server.
OK lets change home server. I have another one for internal usage.

FreeRadius PAP authentication for Non-EAPOL clients on Avaya 5500 switch.
by jan hugo prins 02 Mar '15
by jan hugo prins 02 Mar '15
02 Mar '15
Hello,
We have been running our radius servers for some time now and they work
just fine authenticating our wireless users against our LDAP tree etc.
Now my management has asked me to spend some time setting up radius
authentication for wired outleds in the office, and for the workstations
I got it working rather quickly using EAP-TLS and certificates signed by
the same CA that signed the radius certificate.
But I also need to accommodate telephones and printers and they don't do
EAP themselves. To work around this, the switches we use have an option
to configure the switch in such a way that it creates a radius access
request based on the MAC address of the client, it's own IP address and
the port the client is connected to. You then have to add this
information to the users file of the radius server and you should be
able to authenticate the device and open the port.
This sounds like a simple setup, just add some users with plaintext
passwords and start the authentication process. But the problem is that
this fails, and it looks like the switch is sending 2 exactly the same
authentication requests short after another, and the first one succeeds,
but the second one fails. I also see this when I ping the host, I
receive one reply and after that the port is closed again.
Could someone tell me if I have something wrong in my config?
Thanks a lot.
Jan Hugo Prins

Hi. I'm trying to create a custom counter which basically is the same as Max-Daily-Session but restricted to the current Called-Station-Id.
I added this to sql/mysql/counter.conf:
sqlcounter dailycounterlocation {
counter-name = Daily-Session-Location-Time
check-name = Max-Daily-Session-Location
reply-name = Session-Timeout
sqlmod-inst = sql
key = User-Name
reset = daily
query = "SELECT SUM(acctsessiontime - \
GREATEST((%b - UNIX_TIMESTAMP(acctstarttime)), 0)) \
FROM radacct WHERE username = '${key}' AND \
(UNIX_TIMESTAMP(acctstarttime) + acctsessiontime > '%b') \
AND calledstationid = '%{Called-Station-Id}' "
}
then in sites-enabled/default:
[...]
authorize {
dailycounterlocation {
reject = 1
}
if(reject){
update reply {
Reply-Message := "You have reached your daily time limit from this location"
}
reject
}
}
but it's not working at all...
Compared to a Max-Daily-Session attribute, in the radius debug I see the value gets returned just after the group check query. Instead with my custom attribute the value is never returned, the check query returns null (when there's no previous activity in radacct) so the user can stay connected forever (for the first session, from the second on it works).
What am I doing wrong? Why the default session timeout is not returned?
thanks

Hi All,
I am processing Accounting records from a vendor who overloads VSA 255 to extend the range of available attributes. For instance, they may send something like this:
VENDOR-Attr-255 = "272=Yes”
Which really means VSA 272 = “Yes”
I am struggling a bit to figure out how to process these effectively. I found rlm_attr_rewrite but I can’t see a way to make it split the string and drop the “272=“ part. Is there a way to do this in unlang at all or am I going to need to bring in rlm_python or similar?
Thanks in Advance,
Ben

Hi all,
This is to replicate a customer issue with MAC authentication failing from
a Wi-Fi router, I'm setting up a lab as its hard getting access to their
network. The Wi-Fi client is a device on a plane.
I'm trying to set up MAC Authentication in FreeRADIUS, following the guide:
http://wiki.freeradius.org/guide/Mac-Auth
but it appears to be wrong or it's something I've got wrong. I have
followed the instructions for plain MAC-Auth.
Running fresh install of Fedora 3.17.4-301.fc21.i686
Installed FreeRADIUS Version 3.0.4 using yum
Created raddb/policy.conf as it didnt exist. It is the same as in the wiki
page.
Next 'raddb/modules/file' did not exist, so I created it. The file
contents are the same as in the wiki page.
Moved onto 'raddb/authorized_macs' created the file and put in the known
MAC address of the RADIUS supplicant (the device being authenticated).
Finally, the 'raddb/sites-available/default' was modified and this is where
it's not as clear.
I've added this whole 'authorize' section to replace the existing section,
the next section is the 'authenticate' section and this hasn't been
modified.
When I start 'radiusd -X' I see the following output, which shows the error:
failed to find "authorized_macs" in the "modules" section
I've been over loads of forum articles but cannot find the answer or any
clues to what is causing the error. Only saw a handful of other people
with similar issue, but not an actual fix.
Here are the last lines with the error, full radiusd -X output below.
# Loading authorize {...}
/etc/raddb/sites-enabled/default[261]: Failed to find "authorized_macs" in
the "modules" section.
/etc/raddb/sites-enabled/default[254]: Errors parsing authorize section.
Can anyone see what I have done wrong?
Let me know if you need more info/debug.
Thanks
Ben

Hi,
we try to send VLAN-Attributes after a sucessfull authentication to our
clients.
A file "rad-vlan" contains the MAC-Address, as search key, and various
other attributes which we want to assign.
"rad-vlan" is processed through the module files in the section post-auth
and does nothing. Only if we execute it with rad-vlan.authorize, it is
successfully processed.
Without ".authorize":
