Expansion of \t and \n in message with linelong module and correct_escapes = true with v3.0.6

I have a 3.0.3 FR instance to which some additional logging has been added using the linelog module. The log messages that are written are multi-line and tab indented with \n and \t used in the format option in the linelog modules configuration file. I have also tried migrating another, older (v2.x) FR instance to v3.0.6. I started with a vanilla 3.0.6 configuration and successfully slowly modified that to give the same behaviour as the v2.x version. However when I finally attempted to add the additional logging that had been added to the 3.0.3 instance the log statements appearing in the log file are not multi-line or tab indented, neither the newline \n nor the tab \t have been expanded, \n and \t appear in the log file where I'd expected newlines and tabs to appear. I note in the changelog that for v3.0.5 correct_escapes was introduced and in a vanilla 3.0.6 configuration this is set to true Taking my 3.0.3 configuration as is and running it against a 3.0.6 server it behaves just as it does with a 3.0.3 server - expanding \t and \n . However if I modify the configuration to set correct_escapes to true then literal \t and \n appear in the log file rather than tabs and newlines. With 3.0.6, with correct_escapes=true, is it possible to use backslash escape sequences, or some equivalent to format linelog log messages? It maybe that the expansion of \n and \t in 3.0.3 was just undocumented behaviour that we stumbled upon and utilised rather than expected behaviour, the fact that the module is called line (singular) log may indicated we should not expect it to write multi-line log statements. I realise that I could just set correct_escapes=false in my 3.0.6 instances, I have briefly tried this however much of the default configuration now appears to assume the correct escapes and I'd have to unwind all those changes. I suspect if I did this I'd just be storing up trouble for myself some point in the future. Thanks,, Paul

radius log not recording some NAS client IP

hello all I am running 2.1.1-7.10.1 freeradius server on SLES. The radius server is attached to a ldap server for authentication. Right now everything is running pretty smoothly. Basic log is being written to the default log location (/var/log/radius/raidus.log), but I noticed sometimes, some NAS client IP is not logged. I am sure the this info is available in the debug mode. Afterall the clients.conf is checking the ip come in. for example, a normal record would look like this: <Date> : Auth: Login OK: [james13] (from client able322 port 0 cli 10.22.31.51) but an incorrect record would look like this <Date> : Auth: Login OK: [james13] (from client able322 port 0) Has anyone seen this kind of problem, or can someone advice me on how to alter to log manually to record this piece of info. How to get statistic through Server-Status request?

I’ve found out that I can send Status-Server request to freeradius and get some info about packets received/sent etc and I know that it’s possible by ‘/usr/local/etc/raddb/sites-available/status’ configfile handling. But how can I send this Server-Status request? Thank you. Issues starting FreeRadius virtual server.

Hi, I've just set up FreeRADIUS Version 2.1.12, on my Ubuntu. But, I am not able to start a virtual server. [Output pasted below] I checked the certs folder: root@u082e5f1b60d05422f70a:/usr/local/etc/raddb/certs# ls 01.pem ca.key index.txt random server.cnf server.p12 bootstrap ca.pem index.txt.attr README server.crt server.pem ca.cnf client.cnf index.txt.old serial server.csr xpextensions ca.der dh Makefile serial.old server.key It seems to have the dh and random files but I also read that I need to dump some random data into a file named "random" (dd if=/dev/urandom of=./random count=10) I was also told that I need to run "openssl dhparam -out dh 1024" to generate the required dh file, in my certs directory. Do I need to execute these commands? What is the problem? Any help is appreciated. Thank you. Freeradiusd-3.0.6 Wrong acctstartime, acctupdatetime, acctstoptime

Dear All, I'm using freeradiusd-3.0.6, with mariadb in CentOS-7. When use logs in the entry in radacct table for show 000-00-00 00:00:00 for both acctstarttime, and acctupdatetime and same for acctstoptime when use get disconnected. I'm using MikroTik as NAS. Error Restarting freeradiusd-3.0.6

Dear All, I'm getting this error when I tried to restart freeradiusd-3.0.6, installed in Centos-7. However using command # radiusd -X will start freeradius normally. # service radiusd restart Restarting radiusd (via systemctl): Job for radiusd.service failed. See 'systemctl status radiusd.service' and 'journalctl -xn' for details. [FAILED] How can I use systemd startup script for freeradius-.3.06. Thanks, Akash

auth_badpass = yes, auth_goodpass = yes did not work

Hello, i need some help. I'm running FreeRADIUS Version 2.1.12 on an RaspberryPi for for 802.1x authentifikation on my wifi. I'd like to log wrong passwords for debugging, so i have set auth_badpass = yes auth_goodpass = yes in the /etc/freeradius/radiusd.conf. But freeradius did not log any passwords. If i use msg_goodpass = "XXXX GOD XXXXXX" msg_badpass = "XXXXX BAD XXXXX" it works fine. Does anyone have an idea? Many Thanks!

using multiple LDAP queries for authorization

Hi all, I admit this is quite a complicated first question, but I'm setting up FR in a lab to try to replace an existing production deployment of a commercial alternative. Currently, we can permission a user for access to some network device via the following tuples (in order of less specificity): (user, device) (user, group of devices), (group of users, device) (group of users, group of devices). So we say, effectively in pseudocode: For authorization: Check if a user with uid=%{User-Name} exists and return the user's group if exists(acl(user, device)) { based on the assigned access profile, query LDAP for the approopriate VSAs } else if exists(acl(user, group of devices)) { based on the assigned access profile, query LDAP for the approopriate VSAs } else if exists(acl(usergroup, device)) { .... } else if exists(acl(usergroup,group of devices)) { .... } else return reject For authentication: Kerberos The authentication part is trivial, as is the first check under authorization; the existing documentation explains how to do that sort of check. I can see from the unlang manpage how to call out to one or the other modules. Is what I'm trying to do something one can do with rlm_ldap, or is it something that would be better done with rlm_python.
