Hello,
I have trouble assigning the vlan to users in different groups. If I
have one group and if the user is in this group gets a VLAN 200. If
another user is in another group (add another entry in the users file
with the group and vlan), it does not log on or continue to receive the
vlan 200 and I want it to get vlan 216. Below debug with login.
Users are sure to exist and in the appropriate groups

Hi,
I have installed FreeRADIUS server (Version 3.0.4) on Cent 7 OS and
configured the external authentication with 389-DS server using rlm_ldap
module. I would like to authenticate the mac address of all the user which
I have stored in LDAP. The macaddress field in LDAP is a multi value
attribute and the Freeraiud is communicating with LDAP without any issues,
but the freeradius is authenticating only the first macaddress value from
LDAP's multi value field.
I would like to configure the Freeradius to authenticate all the values
from multi value filed. Someone suggested that we can configure this using
rlm_python or rlm_perl module. I am not a coder and I am not able to find
any step by guide to configure the same. Could someone guide me on how to
configure the Freeradius to authenticate Multi-valued LDAP attribute?
Thank you in advance for your time and support.
Regards,

Peace,
I have free radius 3.0.14 and I managed to authenticate using peap and ttls
using the self signed server certificate. I tried to push it further with
requiring client certificates but that didn't work.
I get the following message in the radius log:
ERROR: (20) eap_peap: ERROR: TLS Alert write:fatal:handshake failure
Wed Sep 13 15:56:33 2017 : Error: tls: TLS_accept: Error in error
Wed Sep 13 15:56:33 2017 : Auth: (20) Login incorrect (eap_peap: TLS Alert
write:fatal:handshake failure): [ameen/<via Auth-Type = eap>] (from client
cisco switch port 50247 cli C3-6F-2F-15-82-3B)
I ducked ducked the internet for the mentioned error and on how to install
client certificates for windows but I couldn't find a solution.
I imagine I correctly imported the server certificate but am unsure about
the client certificate.
I generated the client certificates by editing client.cnf as follows:
[ ca ]
default_ca = CA_default
[ CA_default ]
dir = ./
certs = $dir
crl_dir = $dir/crl
database = $dir/index.txt
new_certs_dir = $dir
certificate = $dir/ca.pem
serial = $dir/serial
crl = $dir/crl.pem
private_key = $dir/ca.key
RANDFILE = $dir/.rand
name_opt = ca_default
cert_opt = ca_default
default_days = 1826
default_crl_days = 30
default_md = sha256
preserve = no
policy = policy_match
[ policy_match ]
countryName = match
stateOrProvinceName = match
organizationName = match
organizationalUnitName = optional
commonName = supplied
emailAddress = optional
[ policy_anything ]
countryName = optional
stateOrProvinceName = optional
localityName = optional
organizationName = optional
organizationalUnitName = optional
commonName = supplied
emailAddress = optional
[ req ]
prompt = no
distinguished_name = client
default_bits = 2048
input_password = ameen
output_password = ameen
[client]
countryName = RU
stateOrProvinceName = Samara
localityName = place
organizationName = comp
emailAddress = ameen(a)test.ru <mailto:ameen@test.ru>
commonName = ameen
then I make client .pem and a file named ameen(a)test.ru.pem
<mailto:ameen@test.ru.pem> is generated. For the next certificate I just
change the email and common name and make client.pem again. I tried to
import the client certificate in windows using mmc, then adding the snap-in
certificates and importing ameen(a)test.ru.pem <mailto:ameen@test.ru.pem> to
the trusted root center certificate. I also tried double clicking on
client.p12 and letting it install automatically but that installed in the
private folder. I tried to double click again and import to the trusted root
center certificate but that does the same thing as the pem file and installs
the ameen certificate. I then checked peap in windows and selected to
validate certificate and chose the ca, server and client certificate and
chose mschapv2 as authentication, unchecked use windows logon credentials
and saved the username and password in extra parameters. The username was
saved in mysql using daloradius and it worked fine until I required using
client certificate.

Hi FreeRadius experts,
I would like to seek advice at configuring freeradius to overcome an issue that we had encountered recently. We noticed recently that login into our switches/routers took considerably longer than before.
The VM (CentOS 7, with freeradius 3.04) didn't have much load at all:
load average: 0.00, 0.01, 0.05
After some more trouble shooting, I realized that the problem was related to writing detail accounting files:
Wed Sep 6 13:22:38 2017 : ERROR: (219185) ERROR: detail : Couldn't open file /var/log/radius/radacct/10.1.1.26/detail-20170906: Too many different filenames
By searchin online, it appears that there is a hard coded limit of 64 files in log.c
lf->max_entries = 64;
When we hit that limit, login into our switches/routers become slow.
Our normal work load usually does not trig this problem. A handful of network admins log into switches and routers when we need to until we examine switch issue by using a script via cron (with ~40 parallel login into different switches at a time every 10 minutes), then we started to encounter slow login while these jobs were busy.
Now that we know the root cause of the problem, we could mitigate the problem by
1. recompile the code with high max_entries number.
2. add more radius servers and randomize switch radius server configuration.
3. optizime freeradius configuration.
Our current setup is very basic, unix (nis) authentication, detail file accounting. I would like to hear recommendations of resolving \
this accounting issue, preferably not patching/recompiling code from time to time.
Shall we configure MySQL/PostgreSQL database for accounting only?
Thank you very much for your help.

Hi,
I'm using the freeradius rest module to convert form json to radius format.
I have a TLV attribute with several sub-attributes and I want to control
the order that the rest module puts the sub attributes.
For example, lets say I have an example TLV (tlv_example) with 2 sub
attributes, a string (*sub1*) and an integer (*sub2*).
I want to create 2 instances of the *tlv_example*, each with its own 2 sub
attributes. How should I send the information to the rest module in a way
that it would generate 2 seperate AVPs (one for each tlv) and how can I
control the order of the sub-attributes inside each AVP?
The format I used so far was sending an array for each sub attribute and
this created a single AVP that contained all of the sub attributes in the
follwoing order:
<sub1_instance1><sub1_instance2><sub2_instance1><sub2_instance2>
Meaning all instances of the same sub attribute were grouped together and i
would like the format to be:
<sub1_instance1<sub2_instance1>><sub1_instance2><sub2_instance2>
Meaning all sub attributes of the same instance to be grouped (in a
seperate TLV).
What is the json format I need to use for that to happen?
Thanks,
Avner

EAP-TLS: Strategies for getting the right certificate to the right user

I've been googling around and kind of surprised to not be seeing a ton of
resources about this. Maybe you all can help!
EAP-TLS: Strategies for getting the right certificate to the right user. It
needs to be relatively automated. I do have users coming by with BYOD
devices, e.g. iPhones (omg they're super finicky about the freeradius setup
but that's another story!), frequently when I'm not around to set them up.
Users are starting with no internet access.
I was thinking maybe of the following:
1) Use some kind of TTLS-MSCHAPv2 thing with a standard user & password
for guests that would change every so often. Maybe let them use the
internet either i) for a few minutes at a time or ii) only to access a page
on the internal network from which they could download the guest
certificate that would allow them to connect via EAP-TLS? 3) the certs
would expire after a few days.
I have been struggling to get even my own iPhone to have the proper cert!
On the bright side, my two linux machines are now working with EAP-TLS so
there's hope for me! I wish I could just put the certs on a USB key but
that doesn't work for phones. And it's a bunch of Linux machines, no
Windows or Macs around. Excuse me if this is a n00b question.
Thanks everyone!

Arr2036 mentions that the hot spot 2.0 standards set out how this could
work, with auto-renewing certs and the whole 9 yards. I wasn't able to find
how to make that work for linux, for instance with freeradius. Thanks!

Hi Alan (Buxley),
Googling a bit and not having a mac or windows machine, it is looking very
tricky to set this up "manually". I have been able to download mobile
config files in hex form from other universities, but it looks like it'd be
a lot easier to generate this automatically. So unless you have a genius
solution, I will likely borrow someone's Windows machine (the shame) and
generate a profile! I guess that won't be so bad, but if you know of other
resources that are easier, I'm all ears! And either way, thanks so much to
you and every for the thoughts!

Hi,
I'm trying to add the rlm_python module to the freeradius server and After
following the instructions in the documentation
https://wiki.freeradius.org/modules/Rlm_python The server crashes with a
segmentation fault.
When I run it in debug mode the follwing debug information is printed :
Wed Sep 13 09:18:09 2017 : Debug: # Instantiating module "python" from
file /etc/freeradius/mods-enabled/python
Wed Sep 13 09:18:09 2017 : Info: Python version: 2.7.12 (default, Nov 19
2016, 06:48:10) [GCC 5.4.0 20160609]
*Segmentation fault (core dumped)*
I ran freeradius using gdb to check the origin of the segmentation fault
and this is the output:
Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
__strchr_sse2 () at ../sysdeps/x86_64/multiarch/../strchr.S:32
32 ../sysdeps/x86_64/multiarch/../strchr.S: No such file or directory.

#4 0x00000000004228b5 in modules_init ()

It seems that when the server tries to set the python path to that written
in mods-available/python (python_path = ${modconfdir}/${.:name}) it
crashes.
I've tried different strings for the python path and it still crashes.
When I removed the python_path line from the file and updated the
PYTHONPATH environment variable it worked when running it in debug mode
(freeradius -f -X -xx). However it doesn't work when I run the radius
server as a service (service freeradius start).
The debug output is:

Is someone familiar with this problem? Is there a fix?
Thanks in advance

We make a billing system which has a JSON API which allows our customers to
hook in FreeRADIUS servers to provide RADIUS and DHCP. Up to now we have
always used rlm_perl along with a perl script using the JSON and HTTP perl
modules to generate the JSON and get it to and from our API.
Recently, I have done a few experiments using the rlm_rest module in place
of rlm_perl, and I have been very impressed. It is easy to configure and it
provides a simpler solution for us, in that it renders the perl script
unnecessary.
I would like to ask whether there is likely to be any performance
difference beteween these two solutions. rlm_perl is performing well for us
and as I understand it runs in a multithreaded mode whereby multple perl
instances can be created by multiple server threads. I would like to ask
whether the rlm_rest module is likely to offer as good as or better
performance as we are currently getting with rlm_perl. Also, I would like
to understand whether it is necessary to configure multiple instances of
rlm_rest and put them for example in a load_balance section in order to get
the best performance.
